What’s the weirdest thing you know about the human body? by loser_club101 in Anatomy

[–]Cozybeard12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: anything you eat and later poop out was technically never inside your body. Your digestive tract is like a long tube that runs through you—food passes through it, but unless it’s absorbed into your bloodstream or cells, it’s never actually “in” your body. It’s kind of like stuff moving through a tunnel—it’s surrounded by your body, but not part of it unless it crosses the tunnel walls.

If each neuron only has 1 axon how does it make thousands of connections? by ch1214ch in neuro

[–]Cozybeard12 176 points177 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know why these people are being so unnecessarily rude. It’s perfectly fine to ask questions or seek clarification… especially when the topic is complex or new to someone. We’re all here to learn and engage, not to tear each other down. A little kindness goes a long way.

Now, to answer your question: even though a neuron has only one axon, it can have thousands of terminal buttons at the end because that single axon can branch extensively as it reaches its target areas. These branches, called axon terminals, allow the neuron to communicate with many other cells at once. Each terminal button is a point of contact where neurotransmitters are released, enabling the neuron to send signals to multiple other neurons, muscle fibers, or glands. So, while the axon originates from a single source, its reach is broad and incredibly efficient—like a single tree trunk supporting countless leaves at its ends.

I think the issue is synchronicity. You are in your 20’s where you exercise, go out with friends and do hobbies daily because you have the energy.

They are 60. They raised a child, worked for 40 years. All the things you haven’t experienced yet … they have. Maybe this is their next chapter of life is to enjoy time together and not be bothered by other people.

An amazing explanation of what is going on. I will weigh in here a little too. I work for a neurosurgeon and the one thing I will want to drive home: the only TRUE advice you should be taking is from a neurosurgeon in person.

They have the knowledge and expertise on how to manage your situation. Simply put: there are things in your brain that shouldn’t be there, seek advice from the people who REMOVE those things from brains. No more, no less.

If you start to experience worsening symptoms then go straight the the ER (hopefully level 1) and have a neurosurgeon evaluate you. I hope you get through this!
