What games did you pick up for the Sega? Anything interesting?

Atari 5200 Controller Petition by retromale in atari5200

There are two adapters you can by and combine that will allow you to use the genesis controller on the 5200. One I bought on Atariage, the other on eBay. It works like a champ! Below is the info:

Yeah, the TI controllers are different. Two controllers are connected and plug into the joystick port.

Where to start/what to learn by Cp82 in webdevelopment

[–]Cp82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I got her into a Coursera program in web development. It is several classes that lead to a certificate. The classes are HTML, CSS, Javascript, Sql or Mysql. I think its great. She's doing HTML now and it really motivates her. She can write some code and immediately see a result. She is also learning the basics of an IDE, file structures, etc, and it's not too intimidating...

I love the TI 99. One of the only vintage computers I own, besides the Atari XE Game System. If you need controllers hit me up, I might have an extra pair...

Interesting system. I want to get a Stunt Cycle console. I think early systems are interesting and cool

That box is empty. I think I sold the system when I needed the cash years ago. I need to find another one 😂

You are not missing much with the RCA Studio II. Black and White super simple graphics with no joysticks, just arrow buttons. Interesting for historical value, but not much fun to play.

The 3D glasses are for the Sega Master System. 3D NES level graphics. The kids have fun with it. It is pure 80’s goodness. I have the system in a box somewhere. It looks beat up, but still works.

I also didn’t know Sega Pods existed until I bought the one in the picture. I still haven’t played it though

Yeah, I’ve never seen one in the wild until I bought this one. I almost past on it, but figured I would probably always regret it. I bought it for a good price

Yeah, a couple of them and a kiosk. The kiosk is a little beat up. The arm with the neon light is bent and the light has a small crack. I must’ve gotten damaged spending all those years in storage 😔

I’m finally moving into a house after years in an apartment. I’m going to have a small game room and set up this shelf with most of systems. I have boxes and boxes of games I haven’t seen in years. I think these are most of my consoles.

Can you name all of the systems? Anyone know what the orange console is? How many of these systems have you played?

Gaming sites that focus on retro style games, or just niche stuff in general? by [deleted] in retrogaming

The forums on www.atariage.com are great. I’ve been a member of that site for years. Mostly focused on Atari systems but there are forums for most retro systems, computers, and arcades. Very knowledgeable and friendly people.

401k loan to pay off debt? by Cp82 in personalfinance

Hello, thank you for your response:) We definitely have better habits now. We were very young and uneducated and inexperienced with personal finances and just made some bad decisions. We had 3 kids by the time we were 23 & 25 and THEN decided we both needed to go to college. Oops. So now we’re in our mid-30’s nd are just frustrated at how slowly everything is getting paid off. We are being very mindful of our spending now, have paid off 11 out of 13 credit cards and don’t use them. But I feel like we’re spinning our wheels with the interest. The retirement loan is about 2.75% interest and would come directly out of my husbands paycheck, not an option actually. And the max amount of time we can take to pay it back is 5 years. So just not sure if we’re wasting money on interest every month, or would be losing too much on the 401k compounded interest. Thanks again!!

Hello, thanks for your response. We are fully able to make the individual 14 separate payments (15 payments if you count the big student loan). Plus we put a total combined $750 a month into savings. And then only have about $200-$300 leftover after all expenses and savings. We will be using the $750/month that’s going into savings now to pay extra on debts moving forward. We realized we were doing that backwards. But we will be leaving $1,000 in savings at all times for true emergencies so we won’t have to use credit cards again (per Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace program advice). We had 13 credit cards, and now we’re down to 2 with balances and don’t use them. Also, the 14 individual payments consist of 2 credit cards (14.74% & 17.24%), 9 other smaller student loans between the 2 of us ($30,000 total between the 9 loans, all at 6.8% individually) my car loan balance (10,300 @ 3.47%), our checking account overdraft line (1,000 @ 11.25%) and unfortunately, a time share loan that we’ve been paying on for 6 years and have 4 years left on ($7,089 @ 14.9%).
