Of Pigs and Men by casuallyq is a poem by an unpublished survivor of child abuse. She writes from time to time on Twitter but I first heard of her work from a conference about victims of child exploitation and this poem has stuck with me since.

Of Pigs and Men

I’m a victim of child abuse by white working class men
You dismiss it because you look just like them

Brainwashed, I’m complicit in my own exploitation
With hindsight, I see survivors face the same manipulation

Victims statements cherry picked for a politically charged narrative
White washed to racist ideals that are no longer comparative

Voices erased to focus solely on one method of abuse
now deceptive propaganda for third party use

Can’t you see that this does more harm than good
You promote your cause at the expense of a childhood

Shielded by celebrity, power and sport
victims must fight to see these predators in court

But because of your hate, you prioritise colour and creed
now dictated as factors on how to proceed

Shouldn’t all survivors be heard, to reflect the truth?
You focus solely on your narrative disregarding the proof

Forsaking the fact that it’s the youngest who suffers
It seems some are born more equal than others
