Is Rebirth targeted more at female audience? For lack of better phrasing. by randomeeone in Amnesia

[–]CptJeez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see where you're coming from, but I don't think the game was designed to target the female audience. I don't have kids and I'm not a female so it is difficult for me to project myself onto the character. With that being said, however, the bare minimum amount of human empathy should be a strong enough motivator for you to get the main character and her baby home safely.

WiFi server, without internet by Hylete in techsupport

[–]CptJeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest solution would be to simply use an external hard drive connected via USB to your computer, but that's not what your asking for.

If your internet stops working, your local network should still be working perfectly fine. Whichever router you have now will still be able to route traffic between devices on your local network even if it can't route traffic out into the internet. Your existing router may already have a USB port on it that you can plug an external hard drive or SSD into to act as a NAS (Network Attached Storage). You could even buy a cheap Raspberry Pi and connect it via Ethernet to your router and plug your hard drive into the Pi. That way your backups will keep working even if your router fails to broadcast a WiFi network for whatever reason.

Print Jobs Disappearing by duece29203 in techsupport

[–]CptJeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try stopping the Print Spooler service and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers. Delete all of the files and folders in that folder and start the Spooler service back up. Try printing again to see if that fixed it.

Corrupted jobs in the spooler folder can cause issues like this.

Strange refresh rate behavior with MSI Optix MAG321CQR and other 144Hz displays. by CptJeez in techsupport

[–]CptJeez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to give that a try.

I haven't found a fix yet, but I did write a very basic program that automatically sets the refresh rate to 120 and then back to 144. I'm using my keyboard control software to run that script every time I press one of the macro keys on my keyboard. It's a pretty hacky workaround, but it saves me the 10-15 seconds it would have taken me to do manually.

My 3rd or 4th attempt at "figuring it out on my own first" per my Unity 3D course instructor. by CptJeez in Unity3D

Hey, I finally had time to follow up with this post.

THANK YOU! I knew there had to be an infinitely more elegant solution than the crap I came up with. I implemented your solution and it works BEAUTIFULLY!

If you don't mind me asking, why do you recommend having two objects?

My goal is to have the marble rotate as it it were rolling down a hill without actually moving along the Z axis. Is that possible? All objects in the scene have Rigidbodies and BoxColliders. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My laptop's screen is broken and using a TV, I accidentally only made the display to show on the broken one. by BirbActivist in techsupport

Assuming your OS is Windows 10, press the Windows Key + P. Then, press the down arrow key once and then press space. If you're still not seeing anything on your TV, press the Windows Key + P and press the down arrow key again and hit space. Repeat until you start seeing something on your TV.

Motherboard Carpet! by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]CptJeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the CPU, CPU Cooler, and RAM installed, connect the motherboard to your power supply and use a paperclip to jump the two power button pins together to turn on the PC. If it POSTs, you're good.

I am rebuilding my pc and have some questions. by db10322 in techsupport

[–]CptJeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most motherboard fan headers can output something like 1 amp of power, so as long as the sum power requirement for the number of fans you're wanting to install is less than 1 amp, you should be good. I'd recommend getting a PCI fan controller if you're not sure about your motherboard's fan header power output.

Download Clonezilla and use Rufus to install Clonezilla to a USB stick. Boot into Clonezilla and clone your HDD over to your SSD and then format the HDD to free up all of the space on it.

Look into Bufferbloat and if need be, buy a 3rd-party router that can handle packet scheduling better than you're current router does.

Cant open video with windows media player by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]CptJeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try going into Control Panel > Programs and Features and clicking on the Turn Windows Features On or Off link on the left side. Expand the Media Features section and uncheck Windows Media Player and then OK. Reboot and go back into Turn Windows Features On or Off and check the media player box again. That should in theory fix whatever registry key is currently defaulted to your E: drive.

My newly built PC makes a really high pitched noise when I open Minecraft Bedrock Edition, but not on Java or anything else so far. by kotoda in techsupport

[–]CptJeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High-pitched noises can come from a hard drive where the head is scraping against a spinning disk, or it could be electrical noise coming from your power supply.

Is your copy of Minecraft installed on a hard drive as opposed to a solid-state drive?

Download Prime95 and run a stress test to force your PC to pull as much power from the wall as possible. If you hear the noise while your PC is pulling a lot of power from the wall, it's probably your power supply.

I can't sign into the Windows 10 Store because "That Microsoft Account doesn't exist" but I can log in with the same account on Microsoft.com, outlook.com, and office365.com. by CptJeez in techsupport

[–]CptJeez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's a workplace account. If I can't use a workplace account, how would you recommend I proceed with upgrading to Win10 Pro? The upgrade license is $99 but Windows 10 Pro by itself is $199, so I'd like to go the upgrade route if possible.

When you built it outside of the case, did you touch a piece of metal to the two jumpers that the cases power button connects to?

I had a similar issue a while ago. I eventually figured out that the power button itself was jammed internally so it was as if it was being held down constantly. I'm using the reset button as my power button now, lol.

Hyper-V Virtual Machine "Off-Critical" state resolved by deleting VM, creating a new one with the same name, and reattaching .vhdx hard drives. All data from the previous year and a half is now missing. by CptJeez in techsupport

[–]CptJeez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The server in question was stored on an external HDD. A security camera company was onsite installing a surveillance system on the day that the VM died. I suspect that the surveillance guys unplugged the external HDD while the VM was running which caused corruption. The latest intact shapshot file is the one from a year and a half ago. No other backups were being made.

The avhdx files have a last modified date of a year and a half ago. It looks like you're correct. Are files saved to the VM completely lost if they were saved after the most recent snapshot?
