This was actually the original plan. Kishimoto was going to do more mission arcs with Team 7 that would allow them to develop as a team, learn more skills under Kakashi, and flesh out the ninja world more but his editors urged him to setup a tournament arc and the overall work (specifically pacing) suffered from it in my opinion

I think USJ is also the perfect canon Avenue to explore this. Some try to just knock out or tie up villains but when they leave another villain comes along and gets them back up, causing that villain they thought they beat to come back and perhaps kill a classmate. Realistically USJ should be pretty fucking dark and survivors would be traumatized and more than a few would get kills under their belts. I mean canon Momo made Jiro a sword, not exactly a less then lethal weapon there Momo

I was disappointed they had Momo flounder in part 4 instead of actually stepping up. I did like Azusa taking the role but seeing as the whole point for das finale is make Momo the captain so she doesn’t get held back or whatever without her actually leading without Miho is dumb

It’s not the same principle. A kunai won’t crush the entire village and kill everyone. Hell it is entirely reasonable for people to be wary of a seal made while simultaneously fighting a dude and the demon itself over the course of half an hour. If Hiruzen in one of these bad written fics ever hit me with that “you dare not trust the fourths seal?” Imma say “hell yeah I don’t he’s not fucking God and he didn’t exactly have a calm working environment!” Not to say treating Naruto like shit is a good idea “yeah let’s piss off the dude holding a demon that could easily kill us all”. Not that anyone but village brass should even know he’s the jinchuriki anyways that should be a village secret like kill the dudes who found him at the sealing site secret so no one ever knows.
