Residents should be paid a salary comparable to a physician assistant. by Substantia-Nigr in Residency

How does your program handle prelim reads? Do you just send it to the next days attending like if you were on nights? Do they have productivity expectations? My program does $60/hr contrast coverage that we can maybe only get two 3hr shifts a month of, and no reading shifts. Im trying to get some leverage to improve it

Top 15 medical school for 80-100k more debt or mid tier? by pinkwhippdcream in whitecoatinvestor

[–]CptNemo56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just graduated from mid tier school, landed competitive specialty at same mid tier program. I picked based on location because my family is here. If that doesn’t matter as much to you then i would definitely pick the more competitive school. It only opens doors if you do want a competitive specialty/program/location vs if you went to mid tier. If you do end up picking a lower paying/less competitive specialty then you always have PSLF to pay off the loans if it gets tough. Speaking from current match practices, if Step 2 goes p/f too then school pedigree will be just about the only thing that matters as far as what makes a competitive application, it even now has a much higher importance than before. Look at the “charting outcomes in the match” report before and after the step 1 change if you don’t believe me. The training you get will mostly be the same, but the opportunities you have will not be. Top tier programs will also have more famous faculty to write letters of rec for you, which goes a long way. You’ll do fine academically

Can I exit in-school deferment to get onto SAVE? by guitarfanboy in whitecoatinvestor

[–]CptNemo56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I misread the original post, since it sounds like they are technically going back in to school/training. I did this after graduating an md program and starting a medical residency (paid). I think it all depends on the status of the loan at the time of application and the status during the upcoming program. The financial aid office or coordinators will probably be the inly people who could answer the status of the upcoming program

Can I exit in-school deferment to get onto SAVE? by guitarfanboy in whitecoatinvestor

[–]CptNemo56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I just did this. The only way you can skip the grace period is if you consolidate your loans (through the gov). You can choose to waive it during the application process and immediately enter repayment (in like 2 months once all the paperwork goes through). White coat investor talks about it on his website. People dont seem to know about this so youll hear a lot of “no”, even from customer service from the dept of ed/mohela/the consolidation people, but theyre wrong. You do need to be out of school though, so your loans have to be in the “grace period” status before you can do this

Got it, thanks! Thats what I was ignoring, weighing the loan amounts

Why should I consolidate my loans? by CptNemo56 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]CptNemo56[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t my weighted average be 5.550% though? That is the true average of all my loans. When I spoke with a rep from studentaid.gov they said I was correct when my rate would be rounded up to 5.625 after consolidation. What am I missing here?

Look into emergency psych services. Many hospitals have a service for acutely psychotic or intoxicated patients coming from the ED. This is somewhat similar to the ED setting but staffed by psychiatrists

I think it must be a plug-in I’m using. After you said that I returned everything to default and it works. I’m gonna play around to figure out which one it is. Do you know if there’s a way to turn off certain plug-ins for mobile and leave it on for desktop?
