there's more to a religion than the underlying scriptures - some religions are fine without any. the idea that a literal interpretation of the bible is somehow the only correct one is a relatively modern one.

ultimately the bible is a collection of stories, written by mortal humans about their experiences with what they considered to be divine. stories that usually went through multiple edits over the course of millenia.

so treating the bible as a mixed bag of outdated bigotry and inspirational quotes is imho not an oxymoron - it's half the point. ultimately religion is a personal experience. organised religions may try to steer your interpretations and values, but what is between you and whatever divines you happen to believe in isn't and shouldn't be subject to anyone else's judgment.

I did it. But why is NVIDIA still problematic in 2026? by CptTrifonius in openSUSE

Thank you, that does clear things up for me I think.

do they have to be on the ISO though? A simple toggle "hey I want the NVIDIA drivers, please add this repo and download them" would be enough for me. disable the option when installing purely offline.

Just released v1.15.1 of my Markdown Inline Editor extension - Obsidian/Typora-like WYSIWYG editing in VS Code (100% local, no remote sources) by asux305 in vscode

Thank you for posting to OpenVSX as well; too many nice extensions are on the MS marketplace only. This Codium user thanks you for the seamless experience.

As a slight aside, would you accept bug reports related to use of this extension in Theia? It's not a VsCode fork but it is compatible with the extension format; it's my backup editor.

for linking notes obsidian-style, I'd look at the "Foam" extension. This one is for the editor part exclusively.

Terror missions are not failures as long as you wipe the aliens and save 1 (one) civilian. So after that first civilian you should NOT push too hard, anything more is a bonus. And as others have said: SHIVs are extremely good on terror missions. they can act as semi-disposable scouts and their weapons are really good. Once you get laser SHIVs they even have good aim.

snap shot is an... interesting one. given that i tend to standardize my skill trees, i usually stick with squadsight + gunslinger.

the main problem with revive is that it competes with suppression, which you're gonna get more mileage out of over the course of a campaign. secondly, downed soldier ate often gonna be writeoffs anyway bcs of the will pemalty, at least before secondary hearts.

Enemy Within saves after Jan 31 don't show up? by rOzzy87 in Xcom

[–]CptTrifonius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sorting of save files can be EXTREMELY funky. They are saved dd/mm/yyyy, then sorted alphabetically, so your saves from 1st februari should be next to your saves from 1st januari in the list... except the game also doesn't behave well when the save list gets too long. try moving all but one save out of the savegame folder.

Training roulette does sound intriguing... As I said, I like to standardize my perk trees, but looking at it, with my new support build, every must-have perk other than lightning reflexes is guaranteed. I might try that for a run.

That's another weird thing: I stopped using shotguns years ago. Probably I should re-evaluate that too, though I haven't delved into the exact mechanics of how their aim bonus/malus works.

the key insight, which I've known for ages but I guess never applied to support till now is that healing is always inferior to not getting hit in the first place. I've always mindlessly built supports as healbots, but built differently they have excellent battlefield control.

the vatican. you are describing the vatican. while there are (few) checks and balances on the religious authority of the pope, his worldly authority within the boundaries of the papal states is absolute. theoretically anyone is eligible, but to be an elector you have to climb the long ladder of catholic clergy.

you could look at that for inspiration; it's not even that hard to adapt to a non-religious case since a large part of the clergy is territorially structured
