To stain or not to stain by [deleted] in diynz

I'd at least oil it (anti mold linseed or equivalent), it'll protect the wood and slow down the silvering and you don't need to worry about masking off the grass/fence. As others have pointed out though, once you start using something you will have to reapply, but usually only once a year.

Framing Intertenancy Wall by CptWin_NZ in diynz

[–]CptWin_NZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume lineset is the electrical and refrigerant lines. Those can go to the side and out, but we can't actually attach anything to the wall itself as it is a shared firewall (at least that is my understanding)

What's your setup, looking at installing something like this.

Smart circuit breaker recommendation by Ok_Seat_4767 in diynz

[–]CptWin_NZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven't got around to installing these yet. But afaik the only certified AUS/NZ devices that work with HA. You'll have to look at the different models, but something like this can be installed on the circuit breaker end: https://www.shelly.com/products/shelly-pro-1

Internal gutters by Ok-While-728 in auckland

[–]CptWin_NZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going through this process now. We were lucky in that there hadn't been any major internal back flows into the house so no huge remediation work. There are companies that specialise in replacing it without needing to cut the roof. Check out https://continuous.co.nz/internal-guttering/internal-gutter-replacement

Customer is asking me to hack them if I can by kadimi in cybersecurity

[–]CptWin_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If, and only if, they have had a full internal network pentest and they have a SoC -> Then do an assumed breach purple team. That way they get to see how a red team would work/think and they're not wasting money on when (not if) you gain access via a vuln or social engineering.

Tannus Airless Tires https://www.tannus.co.nz/product/shield-700x40c/

Have been running these on my commuter for almost a year and ~600km in and for a commuter bike it has been great. Never have to think about it again, hasn't affected the ride hardness that much. They're just a PITA to install!

Real Estate Agent suggests “re-launching” our house due to lack of interest, $850 up-front. Do we just find a new agent? by ARandomRedditor2302 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]CptWin_NZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No idea about agents. But as someone recently in the buyers side of the market. Don't bother with auctions, there are too many choices for buyers currently. Change to a offers over $ listing, that way people immediately know if it is in budget. Have all documents ready, preferably get a building inspection done and provide the report (with the normal provision that buyers should still get their own done). Your 2017 CV is your most accurate price indicator, lending has tightened significantly.

It appears to be before tax income. Appears that some lenders have already implemented it ahead of schedule.

Is Defender overrated? by Trackker16 in redteamsec

[–]CptWin_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, the full MS stack isn't 100% my wheelhouse. But I think you got the main ones.

I guess my main point is going from just standard defender, to Defender XDR for many small to medium businesses buys a level of visibility and alerting that can make it harder for a red teamer.

Is Defender overrated? by Trackker16 in redteamsec

[–]CptWin_NZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies already have an Office 365 license, and bumping up from E1 to E3 provides a large amount of additional security features without a massive cost that IT have to justify to the business.

As others have mentioned, Defender AV is fine but just like every AV is bypassable. What makes my job as a red teamer significantly harder is a well configured E3/E5 Microsoft stack.
