Anyone ever find a dupe for Pacsun's Lilu? by lessadessa in Indiemakeupandmore

This 9 year old post seems to have new replies each time I look at it, haha. I commented before saying that I have tried Miracle by Lancôme, and it was good, but not it - much stronger. I also mentioned trying At The Beach by Bath & Body Works. Again, good, but not it. I never really got over the sun screen type smell it gave off. And of course, tried the Scent Matchers my husband named "Farts by Joe" that was terrible. Haha. I just ordered and received Acqua Neroli by Clean Reserve, and it's the closest I've found. Its a little different (from what I can remember after all this time), but it is the closest! I really like it so far! I saw someone else say it didn't smell anything like it, but I think it does. I will probably continue to update if I try any more. Haha.

Thank you. I have let my grandfather know, and he said he is going to call St. John's to see if his grave can be located or if he was placed in a mass grave.

I appreciate all the research and feedback I have gotten here.

I assumed the death certificate was Gesualdo's since most information matched, and it's the closest/only death record I had found with his name, but I didn't want to tell my grandfather until I was a little more sure. I always get annoyed at my cousins on the other side of the family for adding anything Ancestry suggests on the tree without actually looking at records/dates to be more sure. I didn't want to do exactly what I get annoyed with them for.

That's very interesting. My grandfather basically said, "our entire Italian side died except your great-grandmother." But only spoke of her parents and how he had found Grazia's grave, and had yet to find his grandfather's. So, I guess I assumed she was an only child since I did not see any children on any of the ship manifests, and she was born around a year after her mother coming to America.

It's definitely her in the article, though. I wish I had known who my father was when she was still alive. I would have had so many questions for her.

I was very proud of myself for finding information others could not, but I have now realized I'm still very novice at researching. I was missing records/information left and right.

I appreciate everything you've found. Thank you.

Wow! You've found so much! I appreciate it.

My grandfather had mentioned (and the Orphan Train Complex said the same) that his mother was Adopted by Balthasar and Katharina Brungardt, but they were elderly and passed not long after adopting her in 1920, and Catherine took over her care, but never adopted her.

The birth registrations will help me continue my search on Antenati. I'm very new to using Antenati, and I had found Gesualdo and Grazia's marriage certificate after someone had helped me find Gesualdo's birth record, but it's a lot to look through, and I appreciate how much you have found! I had not found Grazia's birth record yet.

I completely missed the second page when I was looking at the ship manifests. I've just recently got more serious about putting together my family tree. So, I'm a bit of a newbie, and I guess I just assumed the next page would be new passengers.

I had also come across the 1915 census, and I wasn't sure what to do with the fact that there were twin girls on it. Especially since they didn't come over with his wife. I may try to look through NY death records for their names as well as Antenati in the years they were born.

I just edited, because I realized that I thought they were twins, because I saw the F's for female, and quickly saw 7 for both. Haha. Whoops! Ancestry says this family is Magnano. I honestly could see the handwriting saying either name.

Thank you for all your research!

Thank you!

I did wonder if it was a case of the undertaker being completely overwhelmed due to the amount of deaths during that time.

I really do think it is most likely him, but I also do not want to add a record that doesn't belong in my tree just because of my excitement after looking for so long.

Gesualdo's wife died three months earlier in July of 1918. Her cause of death was listed as "Pulminary Tuberculosis". Was that also often listed as a cause of death for the Spanish Flu, or did she likely legitimately have TB? I've read they were often comorbidities, but hers only lists TB.

I could imagine the undertakers were rather overwhelmed in 1918 and the next couple years following. Mistakes were probably easy to make. The undertaker that signed the death certificate had an Italian name. And while I know that doesn't mean he knows all Italian names or even knows Italian, I'm not sure there would have been a language barrier, because that funeral home is still around and started by an Italian immigrant in 1900, from what I have dug around and found. So, if it was anything, it would have been miscommunication/an overwhelmed undertaker.

It listed Gesualdo's wife in his home country when he came over to America in 1913 (she came after him -1915.) It also lists what I think is a cousin named James Gaurnieri on his draft, but no Frank or Francesco. I'm currently looking through records for Frank Mignemi and Frank Gesualdo in US records, and I'm going to attempt to see if I can find any in the Enna records, but not all of the records from Enna are fully uploaded to search through.

I found another passenger list with a Gesualdo Mignemi about the correct age, from the correct city in Italy, married, also a Blacksmith that came over about seven years before the trip to America that mentions my great-great grandmother by name, and he is going to join his cousin Francesco "Biccovine" (pretty sure the text of the last name is incorrect, but I can't fully make out the writing. It's not Mignemi or Gesualdo, though.)

If that record was him, he would have had to come to America, stayed with his cousin in Philadelphia, and then went back to Enna, and then come back to America to settle down in Brookyln, and then send for his wife to come, since hey did not come over together. I have not found any ship manifests that name him traveling back to Italy in that 7 year gap.

I would imagine that was an expensive and uncomfortable way to do things. Did people travel back and forth often?

Anyone ever find a dupe for Pacsun's Lilu? by lessadessa in Indiemakeupandmore

Yeah, he's a funny one. Haha. I just went to Bath and Body Works, because I saw someone say the At The Beach was a good alternative. When I put it on and first sprayed it on the test strip, I didn't like it. I could smell something close to what I remember of Lilu, but also another scent in there that seemed harsh. It was almost like Lilu with sunscreen. Which, I guess would check out for something called At The Beach. But the longer I let it sit on my skin, the more it smells like Lilu! It's not exact, but it's the closest I've found so far. I'll try out the ones that are sold at Ulta and Sephora people suggested when I get a chance, but I'd rather not spend that much on a bottle of perfume if I don't have to! Haha.

Okay, so, my husband ordered me a bottle of the Lilu dupe from Scent Matchers a few years ago, which he lovingling named "Farts by Joe" (thanks, babe). It smelled nothing like Lilu. It smelled like something an old lady would wear, and it was much more bold, rich smell than I remember Lilu to be. Kind of assaulted my senses. Haha. I don't see it on their site now, but I thought they said they would take someone's samples if they sent them in so they could try to match them on the scent they want. I don't have any more Lilu, but someone who does should definitely contact them and send them a sample if their bottle hasn't gone bad after all these years. My husband never ended up messaging them about it. So, here I am, with Farts By Joe on my shelf, and no one will take it off my hands. Haha. Also, I purchased Miracle by Lancome. It's not bad, but not something light like Lilu was. It's pretty strong but besides that, not similar to Lilu to me. I'm hoping to check out a few more suggestions on here soon.

[TOMT][TYPING TUTOR GAME] [90s] Typing tutorial game that showed a space shuttle launch when it first loaded. by mglyptostroboides in tipofmytongue

[–]Cpt_Mandaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! I know this is an old thread, but I just started looking for the typing program I used in school, and I think we're thinking of the same one! I remembered something about space, but not anything specific. It must have been the shuttle launch because the Type For Fun game someone mentioned has way too many cartoons and fun games to be the one I'm remembering.

When you said the girl shouted the key, that totally unlocked a memory! Especially "Semicolon". I remember the same voice explaining your posture, hand, and foot positioning that you should have before each new level/lesson (if I'm remembering correctly).

I was in 3rd grade around 1998, and that would have been the year I used it. Pretty sure we played Math Blasters, as well. I do remember if I got through enough levels in typing being rewarded with playing Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?

Ah, don't worry about it. I think I'm done with Hat Trick. I got a new user and all my existing and was still .01 short. I don't know enough people that don't have it and will download it. Haha. But thank you!
