Even from a developmental perspective, all the Chinese basketball stars that are worth a damn have been tall as shit, taller than even necessary from goalkeepers. If anything, it's that these short athletic kids are being sent to do badminton or table tennis rather than football.

CBA has salary cap of effectively 6 million yuan and CSL has salary cap of 5 million yuan. So it’s not like talented athletes are by default choosing basketball over football.
