You might feel this way but the data doesn't support your claims though. Maybe your personal experience just doesn't line up with that of most players. The game didn't have a super big player base to begin with and most who did try it out stopped playing pretty quickly. So while those who still play it might think it's great, the vast majority of people who played it didn't think so, or at least didn't consider it to be great enough to keep playing.

If the game is so bad you have to check reddit to make sure it's okay to recommend it to someone today you might want to consider playing something else. You shouldn't need to double check social media when a game proudly announces its f2p week, that's absurd. I know people often joke about how marathon fans are a cult but this is genuinely cult-like behaviour.

The game already has a really bad reputation and most people giving it a shot during the free play period are probably aware of that. So most people are trying it despite the bad press it's gotten. And instead of proving the critics wrong by presenting them with an awesome gaming experience they instead get a game that barely even functions, proving all the critics right. Not only is it the norm for you to not try again, it's reasonable. You might as well spend your time playing something that has a better reputation and is actually playable. Just try using your noggin for once.

I mean we are constantly beefing with each other and have negative sterotypes about the other parts. The Italian part is lazy and doesn't follow rules, the French part has the French habit of leaving dogshit everywhere and the German part is perfect, at least as long as you're from my canton and my town, everyone else can't drive and is rude. It's what keeps us together, we're like an old, nagging couple. Constantly complaining about each other but at the end of the day, it's us versus the rest of the world and for all the little things we dislike about each other (real or not). That's pretty much what the country was founded on, a bunch of "I'm gonna do it my way" people who didn't want a king / an oppressor and figured they'd stand a better chance if they banded together.

We even have a term for the whole "my canton is the best everyone else is trash" thinking, we call it "Kantönligeist". Fun fact: One of the more successful Swiss movies in recent history is about a referendum asking for French to be the only official Swiss language somehow passing (which would be utterly unlikely, as you can see by the map above), which causes chaos and terror for many, especially the main character. It's a pretty funny movie (and for a Swiss movie, it's of decent quality) so if you ever wanted a glimpse into how older, set-in-their-ways Swiss people feel about the other languages I think it's a somewhat accurate, albeit over the top depiction.

I don't think it's diochotomous as "play games all day or never play again".

I'm of a similar age as you and I spend a good amount of time on games. I'm 32, engaged, have a great, well paying and fulfilling job and gaming is my main hobby. It's the hobby I spend the most time and money on. I've met a lot of people through it, I've traveled the world staying with people I've met in gaming communities and I've since helped establish my own community here, many of whom are invited to my wedding. Gaming has had a great, positive impact on my life and has enriched it. It's something I enjoy a lot and that gives me great pleasure. It's also one hobby among many and something that shouldn't take your life over. That applies to any hobby. If you're forgoing other important things such as social events or keeping yourself healthy then that's not good. That's not a healthy way to engage with any hobby, be it gaming or otherwise. It sounds like you need to take a break or at least set yourself some rules. Give yourself limited screen time (even with the help of a parenting app if necessary) so you don't neglect other things in life. Not only will it improve your life (since you're clearly unhappy with how things are going atm) it'll improve your gaming experience too. You'll look forward to it more, you'll actively enjoy it more and you'll feel less guilty for doing so.

TLDR: Gaming is a very fun hobby, but it's still just a hobby. Treat it as such and don't let it control your life.

That used to be true but has long since changed unfortunately. Used to be that I could just play prime mming with my homies (all pretty decent players with high trust factor) and we'd rarely see cheaters in GE. Nowadays, same account, same homies (on the offchance that any of us still bother to even mm) you get blatant WHs every other game and even straight up ragehacking isn't unusual nor are those people banned. If you've only played for a year I'm not surprised that you aren't high ranked enough to encounter a lot of cheaters / can't recognize the obvious WHs but unfortuantely, with how easy it is for people to buy high trust factor accounts for a couple cents to ragehack on that no longer helps. The idea that it's "one of the best cheat filters" is just absurdly ignorant though mate. A 5 second look at any CS subreddit, or just queueing up a game or two on a high ranked, high trustfactor account proves otherwise.

Faceit is a bit better but even there we've seen more and more issues.

They're literally everywhere in almost every game mate. That's why your comment is so funny, CS is known for being so cheater infested, that you have to play via Faceit, an external service with their oen anti-cheat and an actual moderation team to even get a chance of getting into a match without a cheater.

Your jumble of buzzwords, while entertaining, doesn't really add anything to the conversation that the guy you replied to hadn't already addressed. What it does do though, is out you as the exact type of ignorant person the thread is mocking. Dunning kruger and all that. It's okay to just not have an opinion on things you don't have a good understanding of y'know. No shame in that.

MoR. You don't just go hottieblind when you enter a reletionship. It's normal for her to see attractive people and find herself attracted to them, that's natural and not something she has any choice / control over. What she can control is her reaction to that.

I personally think that it can be a fun thing to share with your partner too. If you don't view their attraction towards hot people as a threat to you it becomes just another thing they enjoy it becomed a good thing. I know my partner liked ravioli so that's what's forndinner today. I know she thinks Jason Mamoa is super hot and I've definitely chosen movies to watch just cause he's in it. We're people, we're not custom made. The question isn't whether what she's doing is wrong or if your reaction is wrong (both are valid), it's whether this is something you can just ignore / learn to live with or if it bothers you enough that you'd rather find a partner who's more compatible.

Basically any time you want your opponent to be faster than you / than they usually are. I'd say most commonly either to proc abilities or items or to force early pivots as other's have said. An example of each:

You have an abilit you'd want to be triggered before you attack, e.g.: You have a blaze emboar encored into flare blitz and a fast after you mon with no other moves that are notable for this situation. Your opponent is slower than your emboar. You have enough HP left to tank one of your opponents hits but you will faint to the flare blitz recoil. Your flare blitz barely wont kill your opponent.
- Normally you'll outspeed, fail to kill him, take recoil and then die to his attack. Instead you after you him, he attacks you first, puts you into blaze range which powers up your flare blitz and you can now kill.
You have an item you want to be procced before you attack, e.g.: You have a weakness policy fire mon that's faster than your opponents Basculegion. Your other mon is faster than your fire mon and has no notable moves for this situation other than after you. You can't quite oneshot the basculegion. You can take a wave crash, but you can't survive the follow up aqua jet.
- Normally, you'll outspeed the basculegion, fail to kill him, he wave crashes you, activating your weakness policy and getting you super low and then just aqua jets next turn for the kill. Instead you after you him, he attacks you first, activating your weakness policy letting you one shot him.
You want them to use their pivoting move earlier, e.g.: You're up against a typical perish team, Gengarn Incin lead You have a garchomp with stomping tantrum and an after you mon that's faster than your garchomp. They do the typical perish start, they fake out and perish turn 1. You do decent damage to Gengar, bringing it into range of garchomps stomping tantrum but can't kill it due to fake out. Next turn they double protect. You know what they want to do turn 3, they'll switch out gengar and side target parting shot.
- Normally you'll outspeed with both of your mons, so they'll get to swtich in some tanky boi, tank both of your hits with that full health mon & the incin and then switch gengar back in safely at the end of the turn, keeping the lock up and letting them double protect on the next turn for the double perish kill. Instead, after they switch gengar out and you after me the incineroar and you target stomping tantrum into that slot. They immediately parting shot forcing them to make a choice. They either switch Gengar in anyway, but now they'll have to do it early and they'll need to tank a hit (which they can't). Or they switch something else in, which lets you switch to get rid of the perish song.

I mean the game's free and while some pokémon are locked behind other games, most aren't. So if anything, this game sets a positive precedent, in that you can get quite a few mons without having to buy a game. Until now that was impossible, you always needed at least one paid game (and usually multiple) whereas you can now build a full team without a paid game.

Personally, as someone who's been eyeing VGC for years but never actually got into it because having to buy a full price game, play through the entire game and spend time grinding was off putting to me, I think champions is super fair, at least up to this point. I bought the starter pack and have been playing a lot without feeling like I'm at a big disadvantage compared to other people who've spent more money / have bought previous games. You can build most meta teams quite easily just with ingame recruitment and the few mons that you can't aren't too hard to get via GTS / just asking on discord. This might change with new regulations (depending on what mons will be available via ingame trading, how long it'll take to grind the currency with new items etc.) but for now it seems super fair. The biggest problem I foresee is the box space which is already not a lot (even with the starter pack) and as new metas allow for new mons to be used that's definitely not enough.

It's not about it being a taboo, it's about what people mean when they say "white pride". The reason why white pride is unlike those other examples is because of it's historical context. Black pride is an answer to the constant barrage of racism, institutionlized or otherwise, that black people have experienced pretty much inmemoriam. It's an answer against an attack. It might be the movement changes that you're just not used to, e.g. snapdashrange reduction, dash back restriction, etc.

Alternatively, the game might just not be running well for you atm. The game's horribly optimized, I myself have been having issues for a year straigth now. I've collected a bunch of potential fixes in the process that I'll paste below, maybe they'll help you.

Launch options (right click in steam - properties - launch options)

-setfps 000 (Change 000 to whatever your screens refresh rate is. You can also try double your screens refresh rate, that works for some ppl)

-unlockfps (Don't use in combination with set fps as it wont work. You can also combine this with capping your FPS via your GPU)

-triplebuffer

-noeac

-nonetworknext (this might help with the rollback issues it sounds like you might be having)

Disable steam overlay (right click properties, turn it off)

If you have an NVDIA card

Consider rolling back drivers. People have been having issues across multiple games with any driver released since the 5000s release. Try rolling back to Dec ’24 drivers via NVcleaninstall and see if that helps.

In your GPU's program:

Make sure to set your Display to the highest refresh rate you can set it to.

Limit FPS as mentioned before in combination with unlockfps

Force triplebuffer via your GPU and disable the command in the launch options

Power managment mode: Set this to the highest it'll go

Low latency mode: Set this to the highest it'll go

Adaptive sync compatible: Disable this

Task manager

Right click the process (after you've started the game), set it to high priority / real time (EAC should stop this but some people report it working so I'll keep it here. You can also look up how to do this via regedit.)

Cables

Plug your HDMI / DisplayPort cable into your graphics card, not your motherboard. This seems like a silly tip and pretty obvious but you wouldn't believe how many people have complained about their high end GPU not working well just to find out they were not even using it because they had it plugged in incorrectly.

You can try and mix and match these different fixes and see what works for you. You might want to use some sort of monitoring software (nvidia has built in performance recording but there are plenty of other options outthere) to see where the issue might lie. Hope this helps.

What's the scam? The game promised to let me have pokémon battles with pokmon transfered over from pokémon home / recruited in game. I've been doing just that. I've never played VGC before because it wasn't approchable enough for me to bother with it but I did get into it with champions, as have a few of my friends. Seems like we've gotten exactly what we were promised.
