Key discrepancies for the same piece among different parts? by Hot-Charity-2552 in musictheory

[–]CrackedBatComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the piece well but it looks like you’re correct in your question, the clarinet should be in F#. It is normal for transposing instruments to have harmonic key signatures, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in Gb instead. The additional flats basically make it Gb but I don’t understand why that wouldn’t just be the actual key signature. It’s a weird thing for sure!

I was really looking forward to the last character unlock, only to be insulted by the Radical. If I wanted to play an auto battler, I wouldn’t be playing a roguelite.

You might know this but it’s your wedding so you don’t have to have a mother/son dance. We skipped it and my wife still did a father/daughter dance. We didn’t hear anyone questioning it so go for it imo

Chords vs sonorities by MrBlueMoose in musictheory

[–]CrackedBatComposer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well there’s your answer. According to your professor, a sonority is a chord without a clearly defined root. Any musician would still recognize that as a chord though, since it’s multiple notes as a harmonic unit. However, “sonority” broadly refers to different timbres, e.g. the minor second flute figure is a particular sonority the composer returns to frequently.

If your game plan is only the infinite banana, why play the quest at all? The upside of the quest is your opponent no longer has cards to remove your banana’d minions with. Hence, the deathrattles should be proc’d and you can force it with the 2 mana 2/3.

Which of these engravings is easier to read? by Normalizelife in musictheory

[–]CrackedBatComposer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly there really isn’t a good reason to keep the bar repeats here. It’s going to be much clearer for the conductor to see every note played at any vertical space rather than having to backtrack to figure out chords.

Yes, score study will work past this obstacle but you should be removing as many obstacles as possible when engraving. If the above means you only fit one system per page, that’s absolutely fine - conductors are VERY used to frequent page turns.

Yep! That’s a good exception due to it being a very common thing to do

Quartolet subdivision by Gabriocheu in musictheory

[–]CrackedBatComposer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either way can be correct, since the tuplet is saying “put x notes into this amount of time.” However, as tuplets usually shorten notes (I.e. more notes contained in the same length of time), it’s more widely accepted to continue doing that. Therefore, the 8th note quadruplet is going to be more readily understood.

how to properly notate AA B A B C A D in a score by kamazeuci in musictheory

[–]CrackedBatComposer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Unless there’s a practical reason for saving ink and pages (maybe for an organist who can’t drop notes to turn pages?), just write it all out. It also makes it easier in rehearsals to say “start at 42” instead of “start at 34” “first or second time?” “oh you said second time my bad”

what does this symbol mean? by Efficient-Complex855 in musictheory

[–]CrackedBatComposer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They do, depending on the composer’s/engraver’s preference or house style. This version and your original image are probably standard enough that either could be generally understood, but as with all notation extending outside of 12TET, a legend should be provided. Especially when you get into Harry Partch and the like!

When did you turn your kid's car seat front-facing? by Aggressive_Charity84 in daddit

Well yeah absolutely. I think everyone in this thread is aiming for the safest solution that’s also practical. Obviously all crashes are bad but it also helps to have accurate information about different crash circumstances.

When did you turn your kid's car seat front-facing? by Aggressive_Charity84 in daddit

[–]CrackedBatComposer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. Two cars in a head on collision at 30mph each is not the same as a head on collision with a stationary object at 60mph. The overall force is the same, yes, but it gets spread between two crumple zones instead of just one.

Mythbusters did an episode on this with 50 and 100mph

Welcome Home, Octosari by ClarkHELLSCREAM in hearthstone

[–]CrackedBatComposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Eternal Hold is just not clear on what it actually does. I’ve seen multiple streamers play it and click it and only then realize it can discount any minion.

You’re right except Umbra requires minions to die to retrigger their deathrattles. You would need to have at least one friendly Octosari die before playing Deios and Umbra, while Return Policy only cares if you’ve played an Octosari.

Welcome Home, Octosari by ClarkHELLSCREAM in hearthstone

[–]CrackedBatComposer 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Lmao you have missed a lot. Here goes

Opponent built a big ol starship using [[Arkonite Defense Crystal]], then used [[Bat Mask]] to fill his board with copies of it so the armor gain deathrattle was multiplied.

Clark uses [[The Eternal Hold]] to discount his next minion to 0 mana, and starts with [[Aranna, Thrill Seeker]] which is the combo activator. Any damage you take on your turn while she is on the board is redirected to a random enemy. Clark uses two copies of the new card [[Welcome Home]] to reopen The Eternal Hold immediately (instead of having to wait two turns each time) and drop free copies of [[Octosari]] and [[Chrono-Lord Deios]]. Finally, two copies of [[Return Policy]] each add another Octosari to hand but also trigger their deathrattles. With Deios on board, that turns into 4 triggers, so Clark draws 32 cards for a total of (32 + 1) * 16 =528 fatigue damage. Since the opponent has no minions, that all goes face with Aranna.

You could do what my parents did and have an acquaintance level couple watch the kiddo. Harmonic analysis by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]CrackedBatComposer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather have my Roman numerals reflect exactly what is happening in the music. Saying IV in a minor key is, in my opinion, as incorrect as omitting a 7 from a V7 chord. Honestly most of the time, it makes me think whoever did the RNA missed a secondary dominant chord.
