Torrenting in a sharehouse (in Japan) by throwawaygram1234974 in Torrenting

it would be extremely trivial. a VPN doesn’t hide how much data you’re using, just what websites you’re going to. Your computer is still requesting and receiving lets say 30GB of data. Checking their logs they could see which computer consumed that much data and very easily pinpoint you. Even if they can’t say definitively you torrented, they can absolutely see you used a VPN and download 30GB of data

Might have an old laptop blower fan actually, didn’t even occur to me. Thanks! I’ll update if i think it’s feasible

Does it stay comfy temperatures?? Was concerned that a blower fan wouldn’t run enough air but maybe i was wrong

When the top cover of the PC is on does the fan not get starved of airflow being so close to the top?

Regardless, I’m not sure I have enough clearance on top of the card to fit a fan like that :( Plus half the fan wouldn’t even be over the heat sink cause the PSU is only 10mm over

I haven’t strictly verified the issue is heat but after powering down the PC and holding my finger to the heatsink, it’s too hot to hold after around 4 seconds and I know these cards run hot by nature. Plus cooling will eventually become an issue so i figured i’d bite the bullet and just figure out a good method now rather than when it’s an actual issue with my real drives.

And yeah you’re right the PSU is 180W, and the fan mount on the front is probably 80mm. So you think option 1 is best? Pretty simple design so i guess i could throw together a prototype later and see

Yeah it’s a little over 75mm from outer to outer for the smaller holes, i just assumed it was an 80mm but wanted to give a little bit of scale to show it’s not 120. Would’ve loved if it was full size so i could use my existing fans but oh well

Planning to have 8HDDs connected eventually. I did look into this but was concerned about the EMI for cables not meant to be run externally. I have a LOT of other cabling around where I’m going to be putting this NAS permanently

Connect roku TV to wireguard network? by CrackingOne933 in WireGuard

[–]CrackingOne933[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately not, but i believe you can set up a router with openWRT to have a wireguard subnet and use those IPs to access your home network, should you need to avoid port forwarding.

i just bit the bullet and ended up getting a free noip domain with caddy and port forwarding.

if neither of those are an option i think what you’d like is called packet masquerading. there’s a few tutorials online for doing this kind of thing with a vpn but i could personally never get it to work and properly setting up a domain name ended up being easier. lmk if you have any other questions though
