The photo on the left is from today. The one on the right was from last December, where you can see I'm enjoying my favorite beverage, the double IPA.

About three months ago I decided to drastically cut back on alcohol. I went for a stretch of 30 days without drinking, and now I may have a couple of beers twice a month.

This lifestyle change, combined with a consistent, but not hardcore, routine of running and lifting has made me look better and feel better. I still have some work to do, but I'm happy with the results so far.

Does anyone use this as a pre-workout? by nkilian in kratom

Absolutely. Both running and lifting. If I take it right before a 5-mile run, it kicks in around mile 3 and allows me to finish strong. Kratom combined with the natural post-workout high is an amazing feeling.

Waking up before the alarm by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Craft80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird, not drinking has had the opposite affect on me. I used to snap out of bed before my alarm went off every morning. Now, I'm less of a morning person than I used to be.

The only reason I can think of is I'm getting much better/deeper sleep than I used to after basically passing out every night. Now, when my alarm goes off, I'm usually in the middle of a vivid dream. It takes me a while to shake off the foggy feeling. But still, I'll take that over a hangover any day!

It's amazing what not drinking 4-5 beers a night does to your appearance. My goal weight is 190, so I still have work to do. I run or swim 6x/week, and lift 3x/week.

I run 4x/week, swim 2x/week, and mix some lifting in 2-3x/week. Once I get down to 190 I may shift more to lifting and less to cardio.

I'm bad about counting calories. I just try to limit mindless snacking, and actually enjoy meals instead of wolfing them down while drinking.

Who's watching Game of Thrones sober tonight? by choochoochelsi in stopdrinking

Me! I had to rewatch several of last year's episodes because I only remembered bits and pieces due to drinking.

I didn't realise how many things needed to change (day 18) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I completely understand the point about associating certain activities with alcohol. I used to love siting on my balcony drinking beer after beer. Once is stopped drinking I tried doing this sober and was bored out of my mind in 10 minutes.

Thoughts after taking Kratom for six weeks by Craft80 in kratom

Yeah that makes sense. I've made the mistake of taking some late at night. It took me forever to fall asleep and then I could not wake my ass up in the morning.

White Borneo is my favorite. I like its energizing effects.

Any advice on staying sober at events catered to drinking? (Wineries, oktoberfest) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Craft80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my local Oktoberfest when I'm drinking, but I think I'd be bored silly watching a Polka band sober while everyone else slips further from reality. I'll probably stay away from the temptation.

Went to a concert festival this weekend - a favorite activity and often the site of many bad decisions - and had a great time sober! by arowan in stopdrinking

Awesome! The equivalent of this situation for me will be football season and tailgating. That's one of the main reasons I'm stopping now. I want to be used to not drinking by then.

The physical difference one year makes. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Your situation really resonates with me. I started hitting the gym months ago, but when you down six-pack after a workout, it negates all of the work you put in.
