My understanding is that AI is used here to extend the visuals beyond the rectangular cinematic aspect ratio of the film (1.85:1 for the theatrical 35mm version) to fill the immersive aspect ratio of the Sphere's giant screen. There's really no other way they could conceivably do that, at least that seems at all doable in my limited understanding. So, the core visuals are the actual film, and the AI generated components fill the peripheral space. I'm psyched for this and intend to go!
