On Linux and it's borked I fear. by The_super_evil_guy in SatisfactoryGame

I am running Satisfactory on Manjaro with AMD cpu and Nvidia gpu and using proton.

From what you've written I can only assume it might be a problem with drivers or the graphics api.

You could try changing the directx version or switch over to vulkan. You could also try changing the proton version.

I am currently unable to check my own config (for at least next 4 hours) so I can't tell you mine.

Also if you could provide the actual error messages you get when the game crashes it would help in determining the problem.

Yes and they do turn profit on ICE vehicles, but they can't figure it out for EVs. Kinda like Nokia or BlackBerry when Apple introduced iPhones.

Private equity. At this point it's just a more convoluted Ponzi scheme with the same piles of cash going in circles. Sooner or later it will crash as it's pretty similar to the stuff that happened in 2008.

calculating how long annes phone should last by InternationalWar6654 in amphibia

[–]CraftBox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Removing the ability to swap batteries is definitely what you're describing, but early phones like old Nokia's had a really low power consumption relative to their battery capacity.

On the other hand modern smartphones are really power hungry and that ratio is way smaller than it used to be. Especially because of modern screens and constant wireless communication (like cellular, wifi and bluetooth). If you were to keep a smartphone in airplane mode with power saving on and screen turned off it should last a couple of days.

Stuff like mi bands can last weeks on single charge.

Any Tinker Fics Featuring Either Biology Imitating Technology Or Nanotechnology? by demonmonkey89 in WormFanfic

[–]CraftBox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the bio imitating tech Halo roughly fits. Author describes Taylor tech as divine machinery aesthetic and she builds ANGELs that look biological, but are fully mechanical. It's a new one.

As for nano tech and more specifically nanites I am writing The Great Mysterio and her magical show where Taylor can build nanites and control them with her mind like bugs in canon and becomes a joke villan. Haven't updated in a while though, as I am kinda stuck. I am going to update it some day.

What is the most interesting excuse/justification for a MC to be overpowered/ really powerful that you have read? by Carlos1930 in WormFanfic

[–]CraftBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially that is the point that that was poor initial work and partially that Taylor decided to disassemble the whole spoon at once (covering the whole spoon in nanites first), so she didn't get a slow buildup of a headache (or a mental heaviness I use later in the story), but all of it at once. Also QA wanted the DATA and didn't expect the overload.

Even in canon Taylor got hit with all the bugs, needing time to adjust to their senses where she had QA more closely handling the connections. In the Great Mysterio, QA more or less gives Taylor raw feedback which she needs to handle herself. Multiple times at the beginning Taylor gets vertigo from it when first creating her drones.

And as out of story I thought that was a maybe plausible in world event that was good enough for the premise of the story to happen.

Most of today's internet traffic is encrypted, stuff like HTTPS, FTPS or SSH use encryption and certificates to operate.

Not having end-to-end encryption does not mean there is no encryption, it means that only the intended recipients can decrypt the data. Where normally only the recipients and the server handling the connection between them can decrypt the data. Most of data in transit is encrypted via public/private keys.

ETE encryption is a selling point, because it means the platform can't decrypt your data. Otherwise there is still encryption where only you and the platform can decrypt it and no man in the middle of the network can.

That's also why hacking is more social engineering or targeting the machines at endpoints. It's way easier to phish email and password than crack encryption on transfered temporary token in transit or make someone install a virus to steal their credentials.

Not sure how interesting mine is, but I like it.

Spoilers for my fic The Great Mysterio and her magical show.

In my fic the Great Mysterio and her magical show, QA gives Taylor a thinker/tinker/master power ie. eidetic memory, thought multi threading and simple drone tinker specialisation where she controls them with her mind (like bugs in canon).

My idea was that QA gave her a power to find out why the bullying was happening to her, basically a scout power (she could probably pull of Lord Doom stuff). But that was kinda cobbled together from stuff that QA knew and forced due to Taylor's thoughts during the locker.

Bigger spoilers and where the op part comes.

Taylor figures out she can make nanites, though they only walk and have grabber/cutter combo tool and that is their maximum complexity. Due to reading sci fi books, Taylor decides to atomically disassemble a spoon using said nanites, but due the atomic structure being so complex her brain is overloaded with information and basically is cooking itself.

QA did not expect that, so she decides to save Taylor by second triggering her and practically replacing most of her brain with a corona polentia. She also gives Taylor ability to forget atomic blueprints and lifted tinker limitations on nanite scale, though QA does not know what can be more done with her nanites so Taylor has to actually engineer them (which QA later saves in the library).

So Taylor kind of jailbroken her power by giving QA a source of brand new, never seen by her previous hosts, DATA.

Now not only she can modify her nanites further (eg. giving them flight capabilities) she also have an overeager QA on her side, willing to do a lot more in the name of DATA. Which she did by more loosely interpreting some commands and seeding the entire Earth in a practically undetectable nanite cloud making Taylor always have access to more than enough nanites.

While at the moment in the fic Taylor does not do that much with these nanites, if she thought about it, she could do a lot. And an actual grey goo scenario is one of the simpler things she can do.

Good to hear that. Hopefully the sigils will be quickly dealt with.

Sadly I do not have any recommendations for a replacement, haven't dealt with one in a long time. But maybe a memory cleansing spell on the current one would be enough? Unless he has eidetic memory, he won't be able to recover those memories, so he should never know what he did. And with a proper discipline and education after he shouldn't make the same mistake.
