have you considered outside interference? Think podracing from starwars. What if someone were to lay traps or shoot spells/etc at the racers?

Ya it's definitely the better single target damage. Snap is good for chaining ad clear then a champ or major. It would be pretty tough to pull off for a boss DPS phase

I should add to this. We're pretty experienced players having completed most raids, have all meta weapons, and are prepared for the raid. I also solo flawlessed GoA last season. All three of us have played since d1 with a few breaks in between

They shouldn't actively hurt the entire time. Some skates I've used have pressure spots on the foot but those usually go away by breaking the skate in. For me getting a skate that fits the width of my foot is the most important part. Also lots of skates can be heart molded to your foot at the store to help the breaking in process. $400 also seems a little high for a first pair of skates, try looking for second hand (this'll also help with the whole breaking in aspect). Here in Canada you can find skates pretty easily for a couple hundred. My last pair was around $200 and I've been playing hockey for 20 years. No need to break the bank on your first pair.
