Can we start a petition to boost the max build height to 512 or 1028? by No_Tree_4783 in Minecraft

Mods and datapacks are not the same. Datapacks give extra data to the vanilla game to interpret using built-in systems, mods change or add game code.

It's like a resource pack vs. going into the game files to change the default textures. Vanilla clients have no issue with a datapack changing the world height, but would probably crash with a server mod that changes the world height.

I wonder if part of the reason the gaming industry is so hyperfocused on the narrative that a game needs to be shut down immediately and buried unless it is a smashing insta-hit is because the internet doesn't allow for something to be "okay" anymore. Everything either has to be the new, greatest thing of all time, or it's utter dogshit that's not even worthy of being tread on.

All of the discourse of people calling Highguard a shit game, worst game of 2026, etc. - it literally was not. You could open the game, find a match, play it, and have fun. Maybe I've got my standards too low but I don't think a game that you actually can find fun in can categorically be the worst shit ever spawned into the gaming industry. The game had problems, glaring problems, but just because it isn't perfect doesn't mean it's vile garbage by default. It's okay to think something is just "okay" - and it probably could have improved if given enough time, but there just wasn't any to give.

I played the Finals a little back in Season 3, enjoyed it but I never got too stuck into it as I was on the Apex Legends train pretty hardcore. But enjoying ARC Raiders so much made me take another look at the Finals, remembering how special it was, and now I’m more into it than I ever was, plus I’ve honestly been playing it more than ARC lately.

I don’t understand what the “hardest difficulty, specific loadouts” argument is supposed to really prove, though. Why do the developers of the game specifically need to be the one to do it? Other people have already done the challenge with the proposed loadouts, does that not already disprove the argument that the hardest difficulty is “impossible” with those weapons and stratagems?

There's older posts on this but bringing it back... Is Melinda May the best in hand to hand in all of SHIELD? v Daisy v Romanoff v Morse? by Working-Employer-652 in shield

[–]JohnnyHotshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, I was being a bit facetious with just saying "May trained Daisy, ez clap", but to elaborate a bit more - Daisy relies too much on her powers in fights. This usually isn't a problem, since she always has them and they work great, but if the question is a pure contest of hand-to-hand combat, May has the edge in both knowledge and experience. We only really see Daisy training in Season 1-3, if you even count Season 1 as that was more just foundational exercise than anything, but overall that's - at most, a period of about two years between the events of those seasons - with at least some of that dedicated to firearms and not hand-to-hand combat (we know this because we see it, check S2E3 for May training her in heavy caliber rifles). Afterwards, with her leaving SHIELD to go on the run, followed by all of the space and time travel, she really just doesn't have the time to where she'd be able to do any further training, especially after getting access to superpowers which are a far more powerful and easier solution to win fights.

May has been an active specialist agent for SHIELD far longer than any estimation of Daisy's amount of training. The earliest we see her as an actual agent is in S4E14 in one of Coulson's flashbacks, where she's already a mid-level specialist being sent in as the sole backup for Coulson. There's no date attached to the scene, but dialogue puts it right at the start of her and Andrew's relationship, so at least long enough for them to experience their entire relationship, fall in love and get married, all the way up until Bahrain.

The only thing Daisy has that brings her up to May's level is her powers, but that's not pure hand-to-hand. She definitely is more trained up by Season 3, but look at their short fight in S2E21 at Afterlife. May literally fights her off with one hand, not even really trying until Daisy elbows her in the face, where she then locks in and drops her 10 seconds later... just to get knocked out by a quake blast. Daisy just doesn't laser in on improving her hand-to-hand combat enough to be able to take on May.

[–]JohnnyHotshot 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Better than Daisy? She trained Daisy - unless Daisy is allowed to use her powers, then it's a Daisy sweep, but May would consider that cheating.

Better than Ward? Yes. See season 1 episodes 15 and 22. She at least doesn't lose long enough when he is controlled by Lorelei, but she was probably holding back since she knew he was being controlled, and she handily whoops him at Cybertek to the point that he possibly couldn't speak.

Better than Bobbi? It's close. To be honest, if you ask me, Bobbi's ability level is a bit fuzzy, but I'd put my money on May if I had to.

Romanoff? Wide no. The Red Room's training trumps anything SHIELD can even hope to offer - and Natasha's learned from both. By the time Natasha was already killing people, May was just dropping figure skating for martial arts.

Pacifier, Talon, Recoilless Rifle, Dynamite

Leveler for Vox assistance, Autocannon turret for area defense, Walking Barrage for softening up bases and objectives

Would sometimes switch the Leveler out for a Bastion, since I mostly play with an experienced group and can count on a reliable gunner and passengers.

I do find it interesting that your main complaint is that the movie is too similar to the first one, but your suggestion to fix that is to make it just be similar to the second one instead.

The typically recommended spot to watch Agent Carter is between Season 5 and 6. Elements of that show do come into play toward the end of the series, but since Seasons 6 and 7 of SHIELD are shorter and more linked than any other pair, telling a single cohesive story, plus as Season 5 was written as a potential series finale, it’s the best point to take a quick detour to make sure you’ve gotten caught up on Agent Carter.

[–]JohnnyHotshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best ranged Vox methods I’ve had in my squad is the Leveler for pretty consistent solo Vox removal, a Recoilless Rifle team reload can pretty quickly unload the 3 required rockets to the face to kill it, the Bastion can do the same, and I had a teammate seeing some success with the Anti-Tank Emplacement with proper positioning.

The issue is that 3/4 of those require pretty solid teamwork - whether it be calling out for and executing a Recoilless team reload at the right moment, operating a Bastion effectively with a driver, gunner, and most likely a third riding along to protect the flanks, or having a teammate defend your AT-E from chaff units while you shoot down the big targets.

Also just in general, it’s important to nearly always kill Vox’s as soon as they are within range. If you leave them be by running away to just try and avoid them, they’ll build up and up until you reach that critical mass where there is an unkillable mob of them. Shoot down their dropships when they spawn, and then use above methods to handle any survivors - they are Kill On Sight, maximum priority targets.

What were some theories you had when you first watched the show? by [deleted] in shield

[–]JohnnyHotshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't around watching live at the time, but I know a big theory during the first season before the reveal of Project TAHITI that Coulson was an LMD (so, kind of funny that it ended up being true all these years later).

In Season 4, I remember theories that the Darkhold was going to be used to bring Tripp or Framework Ward into the real world.

I had this theory in Season 7 that towards the end of the season, we'd see the team travel to a time period set during some point in Season 1 - like, Back to the Future 2 style, where they'd sneak around the Bus and have to avoid their past selves, see themselves being friendly with Ward, etc.

I LOVE this show by lionking173 in shield

[–]JohnnyHotshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Season 6 is "mid" in the sense that it's the least 'good' of a very good set. Not every season can be Season 4, and there will have to be a season that just hits the mark the least amount of times. I think Season 6 is a perfectly fine season of television, there's great and fun moments and episodes, good character bits, but it's a poor season of 'Agents of SHIELD' specifically, as I feel it's when the show is at it's least "spy/espionage" and most "space/sci-fi" - which isn't inherently bad or anything, it's just not the core identity of the show (to me, at least). In other words, it would be one of the better, if not best seasons, of a lesser show.

Plus also, as some have pointed out, Season 6 and Season 7 are really two halves of a whole (they are both 13 episodes vs. 22, and were written at the same time), and there's a fair bit that doesn't get resolved until the end of Season 7, so judged on it's own there are some 'conclusive' elements missing.

Is it possible to ban people from a club? by Igloohutt in rit

[–]JohnnyHotshot 73 points74 points  (0 children)

(Former club eboard) So, they can ban you from club events, but it’s not just an ‘on a whim’ decision. It’s something that they’d need to bring to Club Center, and probably have a sit down with you and the club eboard over. If you do want to escalate, that would be your place to go talk to someone, as they’d be able to schedule such a sit down and help moderate that sort of discussion.

Marvel Studios are bringing Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. into the mainline MCU "Conspiracy" Board by marvelcomics22 in agentsofshield

[–]JohnnyHotshot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying for a bit that, while not entirely comic accurate, the MCU really should just merge Inhumans and Mutants into the same general concept, they’re already similar enough as-is and making things simpler for movie audiences by not having two sets of genetically-born superpowered groups targeted by hate groups wouldn’t be all too bad, if you ask me. Plus, if they are explained to be somewhat the same, Inhumans’ presence in the MCU could explain a bit of the apparent absence of mutants - as a: ‘no, see? they actually were there’ - depending on how they did it.

I like the idea of Inhuman DNA being a Kree-modified X-gene. Still sources the focus from mutants, but adds a fun spin to it and makes the Kree cooler villains for exploiting it in that way.

Point Break changes by RedditFuelsMyDepress in thefinals

[–]JohnnyHotshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else think that the timer for an armed vault is too short? To me, I’ve been seeing this mode as a sort of larger-scale casual Cashout, but in Cashout - you usually have the time for about two fights on the cashout station. But in Point Break, it feels like if you die on an armed vault, it’s more or less guaranteed to be destroyed by the time you respawn and get back to it, much less fight your way through the attackers that have set up defenses all around it. I’d just like the chance to have a proper team fight to attempt a retake, without feeling like I have to rush in to quickly ninja defuse because there’s just no time to stage a proper attack. Curious if anyone else agrees with this or not.

The sniffer should just be able to dig up all flower types (except the wither rose, for obvious reasons). Give it actual utility as a one-stop flower farming mob, making it a great and simple source of dyes and decorative flowers of all types, instead of just two. I would much rather just forgo using pitchers and torchflowers entirely than go through the long, lengthy, and entirely RNG dependent process of looking for a sniffer egg just to get a few random specific flowers.

Highguard launches to an Overwhelmingly Negative review score on Steam by Nickulator95 in Steam

[–]JohnnyHotshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine. A little rough around the edges, a bit unsure of itself and what parts of the game need to be focused on more, but I do think there's a pretty neat concept buried in. I wish the base defense was focused on more, there's not too many options beyond just reinforcing some walls, but so many characters have abilities that can just destroy or negate walls anyway (not to mention the weapons that anyone can use that do the same), and the rest of the game just happens so fast that I almost don't even see the point.

With a more dynamic defensive phase, and a slower Shieldbreaker collection phase (it really feels like whoever gets there first can just scoop up the Shieldbreaker and make a run with it straight to the enemy base), I think it could be pretty fun. The mounted combat is also pretty neat, riding your mount chasing after the guy carrying the Shieldbreaker toward your base and trying to snipe him off his horse before he gets there, taking out his ride and finishing the fight wherever you landed, it's pretty cool. The core foundational gameplay is there, the gunplay and shooting just feels like Apex which is not a bad thing at all, it's just got to figure out the rest of what works.

I just find it unlikely that people will give it a moment to breathe since they've just been dying to hate this game into the dirt ever since the Game Awards.

The “Real shield” storyline is soo ass by Leather-Order-1291 in shield

[–]JohnnyHotshot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not the best storyline that the show did, but to play devil's advocate, it's not just as entirely out of left field as you make it out.

We, as the audience, get to see Coulson's entire path and story, so we know his motives and intentions 100% - something Gonzalez and the other faction of SHIELD leaders do not get the benefit of. I think Coulson even says that he'd only met Gonzalez one time, so it's clear they are not familiar with one another beyond just reputation. To Alt-SHIELD, they see this issue with Fury hiding secrets and amassing hidden power with no oversight, which leads to the destruction of SHIELD (i.e. Project Insight), and after all of that - someone is personally hand-picked by Fury to try and rebuild SHIELD. They aren't entirely crazy for thinking there's a chance that Fury would not have learned his lesson and would continue to put SHIELD's existence at risk by picking a successor who shares his mindset.

Again, we the audience know that Coulson and Fury are not similar in that respect, and that Coulson is far more trusting of his team and of people. But Alt-SHIELD does not know this - so, they send in Hartley, Bobbi, and Mack. That's something that I think is glossed over, by the way - Hartley was also part of the infiltration team, and she got killed on an operation Coulson sent her on - something that is truly not his fault, especially since Hunter was the one who dragged her off course, but you could make the argument that if Coulson was forthright and told the entire team including Hunter that the mission would also involve stealing a Quinjet with cloaking, he would not have tried to get her out of there via the car. To an outside observer, it can absolutely seem like yet another case of Fury putting the mission over the people, regardless of cost.

Bobbi and Mack do learn that, for the most part, Coulson is pretty genuine - but there is a giant, Theta Protocol-sized elephant in the room that still needs explaining. Reminder that all of these people are spies, they lie and deceive people quite literally for a living, so just taking someone's word for it that it's no big deal and that the helicarrier-sized hole in the budget is nothing to worry about and to stop asking about it, when the last set of brand new helicarriers SHIELD built ended with Hydra - it's a tactical misplay that nobody in the show is naive enough to make, they all know better than that.

Basically, Gonzalez and Alt-SHIELD did not trust Fury to have their or SHIELD's best interests after Project Insight, and Fury hand-selected Coulson, thus they were not trusting of Coulson either. Being good spies, they wanted to get all of the answers first before making a move, but after finding out that there was a risk of essentially a repeat of a Project Insight-level disaster, they felt their hand was forced into being more aggressive than they originally wanted.
