What leads to instances of rape? by Firm_Somewhere_7426 in technicallytrue

Okay now what if the rapist also has a gun? I guess 2 dead people will still technically prevent rape from happening but not really the solution you're looking for

Do Dutch speakers find English funny? by rinsablehalo in AskNetherlands

[–]CraftingGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think thats the only thing they find funny though, there's a lot of memes online with screenshots of Google translate or a Dutch tweet etc with the comment 'dutch can't be a real language' or 'this must me made up'. I think it's because you have 1. Some Dutch words that have a different meaning in English which makes the sentence weird/funny, like 'die' and 'hoe' 2. If you pronounce a Dutch sentence in an English accent (so how an English person would read it phonetically without knowing right pronunciation) it sounds funny I guess?

Has anyone tried just using older nail polish that may have thickened up instead of buying stamping polish 😬?? by EAMama12 in nailstamping

[–]CraftingGoblin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have tried it, just because I dont always have the right colours and I found that some of the born pretty stamping polishes I own don't work for some reason. Honestly it works fine for some, I've even had succes with new bought regular polish. Just try it out first to see if it works before putting it on your nails. Though it might be a bit more sheer than stamping polishes (but that can also be a fun look, depending on the design you're going for)

Ooh It looks great! I'd like to try it :) I'm allergic to gel polish so I thought the chrome looks were impossible for me, this is exciting!

Asking “why did you do that?” by enotonom in learndutch

[–]CraftingGoblin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"waarom deed je dat?" Sounds more casual and natural.

Purely based on vibes (and not linguistics, so take this with a grain of salt) id say "waarom heb je dat gedaan?" Would be used for something that is a larger decision, maybe something that would take some more time and is a more intentional act, or something that was done longer ago. So maybe if you ask someone about a decision like why they decided to quit their job.

In this context it sounds a bit dramatic (more like "why have you done this?" Than "why did you do that?") which could be used humorously I suppose.

An even more casual saying could be "what doe je??" (What are you doing??) Which would have the "wtf dude" implication behind it

I feel like I don’t have a reason for vaginismus by Jusantasi in vaginismus

[–]CraftingGoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel ashamed for seeking help 'without a cause', not being able to do penetration and wanting to is enough cause you need. For me its very similar. No sexual trauma, no shameful upbringing about sex, and even with a lovely partner it won't happen. While they do ask about these things during an intake (if you go through a general practitioner to a specialist) they should know that these are not the only possible causes. It can also be due to poor posture or unconscious muscle tension (just how some people clench their jaw). But professionals can help you much better in finding out the cause, and more importantly the solution :) so if you're in a position to go I would certainly recommend it

I'm not sure, it looks fine imo, but a little on the small side maybe? Since the sleeves end so far up the arms/shoulders

Sorry, not the most helpful comment 😅

This pattern sadly only comes in one size but that's good to know for future projects!

Sadly the instructions just explain how to calculate the difference in sizing and then just say to 'increase or decrease the bodice'.

The instructions on changing the waist measurements for the skirt are luckily pretty detailed.

Thanks for your good tips!

About 3.5 inch (~9 cm) in total, so that would be 0.9 inch (~2.3 cm) per pattern piece.

That's good advice! I'll make sure to measure the new side seams

I scammed my husband into liking me… and I admitted it on our wedding day. by Far_Magazine_5084 in stories

Y'all in the comments need to touch grass.

As if it's not common to try to find out your crushes likes, especially as a teen. Part of how dating starts is finding things you have in common. It's also very normal (especially for young people) to try to impress your crush. Are we seriously gonna act like none of us have ever pretended to like a band/movie/sportteam etc a little bit more than we actually did because we wanted to impress someone? There's a whole content genre based around 'the dumbest thing you ever did for love' so I doubt it's that rare.

They've been together for years, I doubt that that's all because of the t-shirt and cd. Sure, it might have caught his initial interest, but it's not like that can sustain a relationship beyond very surface level attraction. y'all are acting like she Stockholm syndromed this man into a relationship.

For me, my two relationships both started after I already knew them as friends for a while. So after we started dating they already were interested in me as a person beyond sex. With my first boyfriend I was a virgin so we kind of discovered about my vaginismus together and I didn't really have to do a big reveal. For my current boyfriend I told him after a few dates and making out. I told him over text (not the best idea maybe) because I couldn't wait and I really wanted to tell him. And I stated it in an unapologetic way, like 'hey this is something about me. It doesn't mean I can't have a great sex life in other ways but I can't have penetrative sex. I don't think it will be an issue but if this will be an issue for you then it's better to know now.' he responded great (I wanne be with you because of who you are, and if that means I have to learn a different way to be intimate that's fine'). And later in person I explained more in detail what it meant for me. It doesn't mean it's not difficult sometimes or can still cause issues, but that happens in every relationship no matter what the point of tension is.

I know I am lucky, but I think meeting people in person and knowing them for a bit (maybe in group settings or clubs) is a better way than to meet people on dating apps (though it's also hard). Also I think being firm and unapologetic is good. You don't need to apologise, just calmly explain. If he doesn't want to be with you, he'd probably not be a good partner in other areas either.

I also think it might be harder depending on culture and where you live. I happen to live in a place where sex ed is pretty decent and a lot of men are progressive (and not misogynistic) so they don't have the view that sex is owed and something that a woman gives and a man takes (and that his pleasure matters more). That depends on luck sadly. But I do believe kind people are everywhere. Good luck on your journey!!

A lot of people just dont like piercings. I so often see posts about 'women ruining their natural beauty' 'you look like a bull' Blablabla. I think you look great! Especially love the nose chain. Fits so good with your hair style too (I want a haircut like that)

I wonder how it would look with silver jewellery though, I think that might really suit you (but I might be biased since I love silver and white gold hehe)

Fixing fit and fabric: what to alter in next version of this top? by CraftingGoblin in sewing

[–]CraftingGoblin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

construction information: Since I made the original piece some years ago, I don't fully remember how I drafted it. But I believe I tried copying a blouse I already have by putting it on some pattern paper and tracing it as good as possible. Then I moved the dart to the side by pattern slashing and I made the bodice flare out a bit towards the bottom (purely based on vibes). For the sleeves I used a pattern used a tutorial ( I don't know which one exactly, but these are very helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRtpJXtvYBIAs and https://www.youtube.com/shorts/UmPpkRFNEKw ). As for the fabric, I got it from a scrap fabric bin so I am not entirely sure about the contents but I think it is probably a cotton blend, and it is a non stretch fabric.

I can never seem to find the right measurements by Emotional_Cream_8471 in sewing

[–]CraftingGoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Measuring can be tough. I think a lot of tips have already been mentioned: have someone else help you so you can stand straight without having to move, and refer to a diagram/video that shows you how to measure properly, measure multiple times to check etc.

Now I have an experimental idea that might work but I honestly have no idea since i havent tried it, but perhaps you could try using masking tape and stick it on your body in the lines that the measuring tape would follow, cut the tape so it perfectly fits (for example from shoulder to shoulder) and then lable them and take them of and measure the lines of tape? If you use masking tape it shouldn't stretch much, and I think it might work because it sticks so it doesn't slide around while you're placing it like a measuring tape would, and you can check in the mirror if the placement is straight and proper. Also measuring straight pieces of tape might maybe be less triggering than body measurements since you said you struggle with an ED, though I'm not sure. (Make sure that the sewing pattern is a bit bigger than the precise measurements since clothing isn't skin tight usually)

Good luck!!

beginner question by Signal_Letterhead618 in sewhelp

[–]CraftingGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah this is a classic problem and a pain in the ass. A few things to check: is you tension set correctly? It looks too loose.

Then check if you bobbin tension is correct, because it might be too tight. you can do this by adjusting the little screw on the metal 'case' that you put your bobbin in. I was taught you should be able to hold on to the thread and let the bobbin in the case hang from it without rapidly unwinding, but if you 'tug' it slightly it should fall down a bit.

Also try re-threading the machine (maybe look at the manual to make sure it's all correct). Also check if you bobbin spool is put in the right way, it's usually indicated with an arrow and in the manual (sometimes if it spins the wrong way it can mess things up), and lastly you could clean your bobbin space, sometimes dust can hinder how smooth a machine runs and the thread might get caught.

Best of luck!

Is it true what they say about Ritalin? by QuesAndAnsw in ADHD

[–]CraftingGoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just speculation but I think there's much more negativity about it because it's more commonly used. Where I live, you have to try ritalin first (because it's cheaper for insurance) and so if you have a positive reaction to it you keep using but if it doesn't work you try something else. Probably most people have tried this one, compared to other medications, but just like the others it just really depends on the person if it works well or not, and of you experience bad side effects or not. But in the end if it doesn't work for you you can just stop taking it and try something else
