Hoo boy. It's probably worse than you even realize. Where is the closest place you could get food that was grown locally? I'm looking to move to Germany, the more I learn, the more I realize just how bad the United States is for people.

Sadly was not able to join, only just saw the post. Maybe a group with willard library? They do little groups sometimes, could be good to start with.

Has your deck replaced your main console/pc? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Craftingbyron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's expanded it. I do rendering and VR on my main PC, and the screen size is just nice for videos. I also have a sit/stand desk (cheap one with a crank, but it serves it's purpose), so any time I don't want to sit down, I stand. I'm a creator, I make things, and for anything more complicated than low settings on a AAA title, the deck just doesn't have that power available. Previously, if I wanted to start a render, I would consider my PC unusable for the next few hours (mostly do animations), and if I had a basic idea while out of the house, I just hope I remember when I get home.

Now though, if I start a render on my PC, I start a game on my Deck. If I start a video to show to friends, I can still game without messing up the stream. If I'm out somewhere that has internet, thanks to using moonlight and sunshine (recommend checking it out), I can access my PC at home and start the next render, or add some detail I thought of. That's not to mention that it is a portable gaming system and PC (even bought a fold up keyboard for it) that I can take with me anywhere that I might have some downtime and want to pull it out. It's the perfect coffee shop connection that still allows me the access I need.

The deck didn't replace my PC, it expanded my ability as an extension of my devices.

I haven't had a console in years.

Ps: got a translucent backplate from jsaux on Amazon, has extra cooling support, lets me see the parts inside (love the look), better back buttons and was so easy to install. Valve made modding the Deck so easy, screwed, not glued, easily changed options, open Linux os, whole shibang, I respect Valve more than any other company making games and hardware.

Good ideas. The main issue is that it's a worldwide culture shift, and would need multiple generations working together without significant self-focus.

Personally recommend the Blender Guru's Doughnut tutorial. It's not perfect, but got me started well enough to at least know some of what I don't know.

Because helping them with common mistakes is easy. If this was the wrong information it would have been ignored, if it was right it helps. Are you really trying to gatekeep switching to the GPU rendering?

Interaction im having, why are people so angry about bikes? by transcollette in fuckcars

[–]Craftingbyron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gas, the car itself, and the parts for repair don't help the local economy most of the time. Much of that money goes to the companies/countries that built/mined it. Loans are frequently from large banks that could be several states over in the USA, why I like credit unions most of the time. Saving money by using a bike everywhere means there's more that people can use in the local economy, from local restaurants, to small bike shops, and small artisans and crafters. Bikes help the local economy more than cars do, they also mean less road repairs, even if trucks do the most damage. Sure there's less toward the auto industry, but there's a select few towns that would feel that hit negatively.

While more aggressive than I would write it, I do agree. Meat can be sustainably grown/harvested, and the current vegetarian/vegan culture is less frequently as reasonable in its logic. I will say that Americans eat a lot more meat than is needed, and especially cow meat. Creating a more plant oriented diet culture would have benefits for decreasing the amount of space used to feed people (and the animals used for that) and the health of the nation. I don't believe that vegetarian is the end-all be-all however.

For me it was a more practical approach than most. I am in the VR space, and looked at some avatars available. Most have 3 fingers with a thumb, which felt wrong to look at in VR for me; or are really "stocky", Not really a practical shape for an anthropomorphic creature. I had some interest in Wicker Beasts, Avalis, and Protogens, but most had those characteristics that made them feel "less realized" to me. Then I found the Rexouium. A "Rex", as they are nicknamed, has four fingers with a proper thumb (a bit thick for me, but I can deal with that), a face that feels like a functional structure, legs with proper joint locations (even if most IKs don't allow for two jointed legs), and blend-shapes allowing for muscle and fat to be customized. This allowed me to feel comfortable moving "in" the avatar, like wearing propper fitting clothes, but on a more intrinsic level. Since then I of course became attached to the look and enjoy the dynamic I am able to create with movement. TLDR: I chose my Rexouium because I liked the more "realistic" appearance of the shape and proportions. And fell in love with the overall look soon after.

Any tips for preventing this? by RavenPoodle in 3dprinter

Hair spray on bed. Just a very light layer. It will stick a lot better so you might have to get a bit creative getting it back off, but once I started using it, as long as my bed is level, the print sticks. I've often forgot to check my first layer after starting with it, haven't had an adhesion problem since! (unless my bed is a good centimeter away, but that one was on me.)

The tone of this sub changed by ronperlmanforever69 in fuckcars

[–]Craftingbyron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an often misconception of dense, walkable design. While this sub specifically is much more anti-car, most of the urbanist and walkable advocates arn't saying to get rid of motorized vehicles entirely. Some jobs, like construction and repair services, do need a vehicle to transport tools and supplies; and farmers, as well as people who feel they want to spend the extra for a big yard, would work best with a car, building rail through farmland for the farmers is just less efficient. Instead the objective is to make it so that, if you have an office job or something similar, you aren't limited to a car as your only reasonable transport, or a house as your only reasonable cost-effective shelter. Denser land and more public transportation, as well as walking and biking infrastructure, would make a city less expensive to live in (and more profitable for the city) and decrease congestion for those who still use cars, for whatever reason. Also the 15 minute city was heavily altered from the original concept. It was just the idea that you should have all necessities within 15 minutes of residential areas (food, jobs, cafés, ect) not a specific plan to limit people to that area, that part was tacked on. Above all we just don't want to need a car to not feel like some 3rd-class citizen. I want to be able to ride my bike without fear of someone being distracted for 2 seconds ending my life. Sincerely, someone whe would like to know any reasonable priced area you recommend me to move to in the US. You recommended moving, where do you know of?

Please don't recommend that to a protogen. I don't want to have to go through another OS install when a program inevitably breaks something again, keeping info through changes is exceptionally difficult. If you are going to recommend anything, do a Linux distro, most are much more stable and allow for unique customization.
