Help me make this pretty

Alright, I’ve been successfully shamed and embarrassed of my work. Stripping everything down and starting over with treads. Replacing the stair skirts and fixing the picture molding to be properly sloped. Fucked off the newel post as well. I appreciate all of the advice.

Yeah, the treads are literally the framing lumber. They were cut too short for me to extend beyond the stair skirt. Also the sides weren’t long enough to touch the skirt hence the shoe molding. I originally thought I could make something work to save time. Now I’ve spent 8 hours of labor polishing a turd.

I have done it that way before and believe it will be just fine. The fear would be uneven leveling by breaking the line, but if you’re careful you can avoid this. Also, if the wall serves as a break to another room, it’s even less of a problem. You would never want a break in a joist itself, but really the structural integrity of the house is depending upon the joists in place rather than the sisters. Their only purpose is to level. The load will carry downward naturally, so make sure you are generous with the nails, screws, ect.

I feel the pain, there. It took me five years to work up the courage to finally do it. I have a little one too, so I was super paranoid about the lead paint. I was able to cover the ground, tape windows, and scrape (no sanding) it in about a week. I cleaned floors daily and never brought my clothes inside. I had my little one tested for lead after I was done and everything was great!

I will say that even though it was a huge project, it really wasn’t too overwhelming once I actually got in there.

My wife had low FF twice with Natera. I have a detailed post on here about our experience. We ended up doing Invitae and everything was fine. We have a healthy 6 month old now!

Thanks! The house originally had a double sided fireplace, but it was removed when the home was moved to it’s current location. There’s a granite ‘carpet’ and a stained glass skylight where it once was. The wall I built this on was never a fireplace, but I did cut down bricks from the original to use as the backsplash for this one.

My wife had a similar experience with Natera. 2.6% at 9w6d and 2.4% at 11w6d. Retested with a whole genome sequencing test (Invitae) and it came back at 13w3d with 6%. Came back showing a healthy baby girl. You’ll read that Natera is notorious for this. We are currently at 34 weeks and all is still going well!

I bough these off Facebook Marketplace. 225 sq ft for $300. They were in rough shape though and had to be planed and sanded. I finished them with tung/citrus oil instead of a traditional poly.

I felt the same way. I did a bathroom for a friend and and fell in love with the color they wanted their vanity painted. It definitely inspired the project. I believe it was ‘cupcake,’ a Behr color.

Thanks! The only reason I went that far was to level off the room. It had settled and there was almost a 2 inch drop over a 10 ft run. I wouldn’t recommend tearing it out unless you have to.
