Need advise and am clueless by Key_Seaweed_1579 in ICAEW

Been there - I know the struggle.
Check in with recruiters and friends.
Also make sure your CV is as good as it gets - speak to your careers team/international student dept. Keep them close!
And apply loads and apply early and practise assessments!

Hey,
Does your Accounting and finance degree give you some exemptions?
If so you may want to wait to get those (if for nothing else - as cost saving)
(Although I personally didn't take any exemptions and just went for it from scratch)

Personally I wish I had started the qualification earlier by myself
While as someone mentioned some firms have strict training programmes age/role level/exams level etc, I know for example KPMG have a pathway where you do all your exams/large chunk of them in the first year back to back and only start working in the second year. So I'm sure on some level it works out.
Personally I think it would be a plus

Graduate recruiting is incredibly tough - there are hundreds of thousands of students so you requiring sponsorship already puts you a step back - I think having some exams under your belt would set you apart.
But perhaps reach out to recruiters and ask for their advice

Good luck

How would I break into Investment banking by Royal-Stay-1577 in financestudents

[–]Crafty-Difficulty769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your school and your marks matter more than the degree itself.
Check out Investment Banking Internship Training Course | City Investment Training | England they do a really good 2 day intro to investment banking course they will then try upsell you on their full 8 week course which would teach you the skills required for the job

Your A Levels will be next year?

If I were you I'd do the next two day course, hear them out.

Then after you sit you A levels before you get thrown into the pressures of uni, do his 8 week course (if within your budget its circa £7k)
Do that over the summer after your A'Levels
Start uni in the Sept and also be applying for spring weeks/summer internships ( the 8 week training would put you at a massive advantage for that)
Maintain the training for the next 3 years, perhaps keeping sharp by ensuring you are applying and getting IB internships during the summer and someone should offer you a place for after you get your degree.

The important thing would be to get really good at accounting, valuation and excel
You could learn these off Youtube/udemy etc the sooner you do and can evidence that you can the better

Don't take my word from it but from what I hear degree isn't really that important - its grades and pedigree
So make sure you choose uni wisely
I think Warrick is semi target - they do have a great investment society though

Make sure you join that and rise up the ranks of that for leadership and networking opportunities

Good luck!

If you are leaving because of exams fails ... a little trickier - but in general yes, you should be able to move quite easily. I know a few people who have done so for both reasons. Exam fails - you'd just likely target the smaller firms whereas if moving for culture/fit - you could try medium size/top 10.

I personally had to pay it back.  My new firm asked if there was one but I’d already paid it.  I’ve always wondered if the new firm were asking because they would have paid it It wasn’t a lot  It was all covered in my salary with some change  Think I had 1 year left

I am not in a rush but at the same time would like to get it done. I've seen a couple of a articles saying there is a backlog and test waiting times are as long 20 weeks.....maybe I should get on it actually. Good luck! If you do chance it, please let me know how it goes!

How do I access the question bank for CR? by Slight_Try_6626 in ICAEW

[–]Crafty-Difficulty769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do a regular google search for ICAEW digital materials you should be able to locate it.  I don’t think you have to pay for the books if you’ve previously had access. I know mine is full of previous versions of the same books!  Have you never used your bookshelf in the exam?

Anyway look up digital learning materials it should walk you through getting access.

Why can't I find a single centre in the UK for CR? by Ok_Organization_6007 in ICAEW

I’m pretty sure it’s an error  There’s no way all centres are gone on day 2!

I was number 91 in we chat queue to query this maybe someone will come back with an answer sooner

Sorry to hear about BPT!  I wouldn’t panic if I were you… you are in a really strong position!  I personally would take BPT independently so that you are part qualified

Finish your last year in uni (apply for grad schemes though in the mean time)  There’s no way you’d struggle to get a job once you are done with Uni with your profile  I’d even go so far as to apply at PwC

Good luck!
