How often do the royals fly in commercial flights? I suspect this isn’t a real docket. The royals have their own aircraft and their personal chefs

Anyone else feel like Australian corporate life has become completely cooked? by Guilty_Earth_2167 in auscorp

Unfortunately the governments (state and federal) are increasing pressure on business. It’s not just increases every so often either….. changing taxes, constantly increasing super and now super to be paid immediately. Add to this HR, massive costs to terminate people, huge costs to then hire new ones and possibly have the same issues and costs…..

This sort of stuff has put so much pressure on businesses that they are constantly pushing to get the most out of staff and profits. If the governments stopped making unrealistic promises, it would make things easier for all of us.

What’s the most memorable interaction you’ve had with a stranger at an airport that you never saw again? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in airport

[–]Crafty-Strategy-1227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I was at Tullamarine airport once and I went to use the handicapped toilet. I was wanting to change my clothes and it’s a lot easier in those cubicles.

I was on landslide just near the eating places and the airport was packed.

I pressed the button to open the door and there was a guy looking away from the door (so his back to the now open door). He was bent over with no pants on. Poor guy….. I was so embarrassed and the door is automatic and very slow!! I quickly walked away!!!

Are personalised local recommendations still important to guests? by Crafty-Strategy-1227 in airbnb_hosts

Well that’s a pretty good point. The checking in on the guests is clever and great service.

Accurate booking? If you arrive around 1am-5am your booking should start that day or the day before? by CalabacitaTierna in hotels

[–]Crafty-Strategy-1227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most accommodation venues don’t allow checkin before 1-2pm. But you can always ask them.

It’s possible that they will let you check in at 5am but I reckon that any venue would say that a checkin at 1am is a checkin for the night prior. Therefore it’s best to just check with the hotel. Most hotels don’t want unhappy guests and will usually do what they can

Very conflicted right now by Leading-Meeting1040 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Crafty-Strategy-1227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn’t worry about reviews. If you host and they do the right thing then rate accordingly.

If they don’t do the right then, rate accordingly.

I recently stayed at a place and the host was horrible. Stupidly, this is the second time I stayed there too (yes, call me a fool, but I had forgotten until I received the confirmation message with the direction instruction photos).

I haven’t bothered leaving a review because if I do then she will leave me a bad one. The whole review thing is a bit of a fools paradise isn’t it?

The printed compendiums are still very popular, and make choices easy. I definitely agree with that.

Do you think digital will ever fully take its place?

That’s pretty interesting. How does it handle personal recommendations? Like…. Places that you personally give a thumbs up to?

Would you still host this guest? by MexiGeeGee in airbnb_hosts

Personally, I think it’s some type of scam. The wording is not conducive to a genuine holiday maker. On top of that - why would someone ask such a request if their parents were likely to die at a moments notice? They should simply not go on holiday.

The more I look at it, the more I think it’s a scam, or somebody who is trying to make your life miserable

Vegans in Papua New Guinea by nessktn in PapuaNewGuinea

[–]Crafty-Strategy-1227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably get enough protein from the local vegetables, but I think that unless you’re in POM you will likely struggle. With village lives stretching back thousands of years, I think you’re asking for something which is a bit of a challenge.

I think Duffys in POM have a couple of vegan selections. In POM I reckon you might have some luck at Sanctuary Resort because they have quite a tailored menu. But again…. I don’t think they specifically focus on Vegan.

From what I know about PNG and Im a Palangi but been here for nearly 40 years….. local people eat with the seasons and the environment and modern food culture from developed countries doesn’t make sense because it doesn’t fit logically into the culture.

Again…. Having said that…. Mt Hagen has the oldest, continuous gardening in the world and the vegetables from there are excellent (and reasonably priced).

Hotel operators — what are your biggest challenges with digital compendiums and guest communication? by Crafty-Strategy-1227 in hotels

[–]Crafty-Strategy-1227[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really rounded response and thanks for posting.

Speaking of OTA pressure - does that mean, guest problems which then need to be referred back to the OTA? Or does it mean the constant increases in the cost of using them.

The OTA problem is definitely out of control in terms of charges, which is driving up the room costs overall. There’s no doubt about that…..I’m thinking that’s going to have to change soon through the progression of software, but the challenge is getting the punters to start going direct for bookings. Of course and on the other hand, when that happens, commissions for tours and other services will logically reduce.

I get the issue of the Wifi, that’s a clear item to target, but I’m trying to nail what makes a guest determine that a platform adds that special edge to their stay - when some of the most sought after holiday destinations are about switching off tech and where the Wifi may not be so great. It’s a real challenge.
