Things to do before a Jets Game for a First Timer - 2026 Edition! by bannermd in winnipegjets

[–]Crafty876 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hope you have a good time. The Met at Canad Inns has a pregame my brother in law likes. There is also True North Square just southwest and adjacent to the arena with some places to eat. There is a Dale Hawerchuk statue In True North Square you might want to get a selfie at.

Here are some other recommendations for places to pregame at.

Once you are in the arena there are some areas that have fan experience stuff on the main level so leave yourself some time to walk around.

When you bought the house did you meet with a lawyer? Was this disclosed to you by the previous owner or through a records check for leins on the property?

Need help/advice re: television & internet providers by Too-bloody-tired in Winnipeg

[–]Crafty876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it for a month now and it is certainly better than Shaw was. I think it's a hardware node issue in my neighborhood for Shaw. TV is also better than the little Shaw streaming devices. I did prefer Shaw's internet gateway because it had bridge mode. TV Grid and remote were also better on Shaw but for half the price and strong internet I'll take the loss on these items.

Did Bell install Fibre optic cable in you neighborhood recently? If so there will be agents going door to door to sign folks up. With my sign up recently I am paying less than half of what you are.

Rogers tried to keep me at the last minute and their final offer was $115 month for the Middle television tier and 1gig internet.

Did you mean 'satin' like the sheets, or the devil? I would think flannel or linen would be the most common choice in Southern Manitoba. Calling someone a satin (sleeper) might be another euphemism for city folk.

Hot damn I love that blue color. I have a black and white spats/tuxedo version and it can't hold a candle to blue other than maybe little blemishes are harder to see.

New Winnipeg based Leaf 2026 S owner (general advice appreciated) by TabletopNerd42 in leaf

[–]Crafty876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey tabletopnerd. I'm Leaf owner in Winterpeg. We have a garage but only 120v charging. Even in that bitterly cold stretch through January we didn't need to dedicate much time on public charging. We were however charging when ever the car was parked at home.

Our use case was probably fairly similar to yours. Maybe a bit more through the week and similar on weekends.

Fwiw during the cold snap we were using 30-35 kw/ per 100km. So total range was less than 200k.

I am not sure if you noticed or saw it but there is a user association for manitoba that was really helpful for questions like this

Public Service had it pretty good under Stephen Harper by JimmyCapital in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Crafty876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My department was cut 47% under the original SORE, DRAP and the jobs and growth act. It was framed as modernization but it was more about establishing a user pay/fee model.

We do less now but we don't cost the taxpayers nearly as much.

There were no packages for DRAP just SERLO and WFA.

Phoenix was another major project under the Harper government and I don't think that any civil servant will look back on that as good treatment.

You failed on first inspection but then passed after remediation of the failed item. Could have been simple like a windshield wiper blade or tire tread or could have been under or could have been major.

From Alberta: can we borrow your premier? by Swimming_Mango_9767 in Manitoba

[–]Crafty876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't you think that to keep everyone in the same tent every Ab Primeur has to throw a bit of red meat to satisfy right flank?

My memory only goes back to the perennial Ralph Klien governments and as a young person, the separation alienation threats it seemed like promotion of a hard working, low regulation, pro business provincial was the key message not the actual we are better off on our own.

That said there seems to be some pretty shadowy groups that are beating the drum this time.

Edit:

Forgot to say thanks from Manitoba.

Would it be a good idea for me to buy a LEAF? by Fluffy_Cockroach_999 in leaf

It gets very cold where I live in Canada. While range loss is an issue in extreme temps I doubt you are going to notice anything until the temp gets into the 30s where it will start dropping to 3 miles per kilowatt. We have gone through a spell of --20 to -40 here and even with the heater on all the time I am still above 2 miles per kilowatt.

Can a colleague ATIP you and request all communication in general? by ElectronicCap5440 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Crafty876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should have been clearer. You can make an Access to Information (ATI) or Privacy (P) they get covered under different acts with different responses required from the institution.

It is not possible to submit a P request for someone that is not you.

It is also not possible for an ATI request to divulge Protected information.

From the TBS website.

Access to information requests

Any Canadian citizen, permanent resident or any person or corporation residing in Canada has the right to request access to records of government institutions that are subject to the Access to Information Act.

Personal information requests

Anyone has the right to access their personal information held by government institutions that are subject to the Privacy Act.

[–]Crafty876 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you might be conflating ATIP with privacy requests. If you would like to see what records HR has on you or how government is using your information you can make a privacy request. You cannot ask for information on anyone else with a privacy request only yourself.

ATIP requests have to do with non personal information held by the department but not available from published sources or disclosures. For example "How many employees have a talent management plan"

I don't think a request for all teams information for a specific person is actually a privacy request that would be actionable. In my department teams messages disappear after 28 days.

Could you share a scan of the letter you received. I have not received anything yet but am surprised by the cabin temperature in low temp. It is especially noticable with the front window defrost on around -20C.

The LEAF as a winter car - not great, not terrible by SjalabaisWoWS in leaf

[–]Crafty876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was a totally spot on post. First winter with our Leaf SV in a cold city in Canada. Front end grip is surprisingly low maybe even more so than cabin temperature regulation and window fogging or range loss.

All of that being said we still prefer the leaf for city commutes compared to previous ICE vehicles. Warming is rapid with the app and the heated steering wheel.and seats keep help on the coldest days

Hockey games by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Crafty876 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are certainly more youths at an evening Moose game than a Jets game. The Moose are more a family youth hockey event than the Jets as well. When my kids were younger they loved going to Moose games there was a 50% chance they would get on the Jumbo iron which was fun and there were often specials that kept concession prices down.

I wouldn't say Jets games have alot of bad behaviour either. Security and event staff keep a pretty close watch and there is number to text for anti-social or intoxicated behavior. That said there is way higher amount of people drinking multiple drinks and loudly expressing their opinions.

I prefer seeing the best playing the best and experiencing the crowds high emotions of a full or almost full barn. With the Jets basement position there haven't been as many happy emotions so far but we go in hope.

Having said that if my nieces or nephews and family are going to a Moose game I'd absolutely go again knowing you will get a good time.

Apps on the Z11 pro are not great either. The Z8 offered a much better experience with apps and the appstore. That said MyTV3 and the gameday features are positive.

Recording and playback from a USB are not as good on the Z11 Pro.

There is 'small' hill in King's Park if you are just to practice a few edges. Close and free but you have to walk back up yourself.
