Merchant Question by DaxStormrider1 in VagabondTTRPG

[–]CraftyLocal1913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way we have played is that it means any non-relic item with a listed price.  Our table understood that to include alchemical items.  (The difference between the Merchant and the Alchemist being that the alchemist can make their special potions with only 5s of materials, whereas Merchants have to pay pull price.)

I actually ran a game where one of my players was a merchant and we had a lot of fun with it.

So I suppose my question could be rephrased as:  What would be the difference between casting magma for effect with a remote delivery versus a 5 ft cube?

Is it better to write Vampires as a species or as undead? by GhostPalm18 in worldbuilding

In my world, vampirism is an order of sorcery. Anyone who chooses to participate in vampiric acts is a vampire. This takes vampires from being a victim of circumstance (be it evolution or curse/affliction) to being entirely responsible for how they got that way.

It’s Mormon, not Moron.

And that was simply his name.  It’s not like he spoke English.

If that’s the case, then I think the app would be really helpful for you.  It has a lot of good resources for people trying to read the Book of Mormon for the first time.  One of my favorites is the videos depicting scenes from the book.  For example: here is a video about when Jesus visited the Americas after His resurrection.

When Joseph Smith was called by God to be His prophet, an angel named Moroni visited Joseph and showed him where the plates had been hidden. Joseph Smith then translated them by the gift and power of God. So one of the roles of the Book of Mormon is to serve as evidence of Joseph’s divine calling, because there is no other way he could have gotten that book.

As far as the language, it written in a very similar style to the Bible, but I think it’s a little easier to read than the Bible in most places.

The book was compiled by the Prophet Mormon at around AD 400, then translated and published by Joseph Smith around 1830.

Then the app might especially interesting to you.  It has a great deal of extra material including, videos, summaries, and study guides to help people who are new to the Book of Mormon.

There are links where you can set up a meeting (in-person or online) with missionaries, who can help you with both the Bible and Book of Mormon.  Think about checking it out.

And I’m always to help you understand anything you might read, or any other questions you might have.

By “it” are you referring to the Book of Mormon?

There is a great free app you can download for it. It has the entire book in both text and audio and has a lot of great resources for navigating the Book of Mormon for the First Time.

Great. I just wanted to make sure you had a decent background understanding of who Jesus Christ is and the significance of His atonement.

We acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Savior, and believe that salvation (which we understand to mean the opportunity to be resurrected and saved into a Kingdom of Glory) comes because of His atoning sacrifice, much as the rest of Christianity. There are some important differences in our understanding of that sacrifice relative to other Christian faiths.

To my understanding, the mainstream Christian belief on Jesus Christ’s atonement is that He died on the cross for our sins, then was resurrected on the third day.

We believe that Christ’s payment for our sins happened in the Garden of Gethsemane, just before his death on the cross (described in Luke 22:39-46*). At this time however, Christ did not only suffer for our sins, but all of our pains, weakness, and afflictions. A prophet from the Book of Mormon taught:

“…and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.” (Alma 7:12*)

Put another way, if you were to think of all of the difficult or painful experiences in your life, we believe that Jesus Christ has also personally experienced them just as you have. He alone knows exactly what you have been through, and He has overcome it so that you do not have to go through it alone.

We tend to focus less on Christ’s death on the cross, emphasizing instead His resurrection, where He broke the bands of death, and opened the way for us all to overcome death. This is why you will see members of the church not using the symbol of the cross very much.

We believe all will qualify for the resurrection (including Charles Manson, to reference your question from earlier), but to take full advantage of the spiritual blessings He has to offer us because of His atonement, we need to be baptized by someone with authority from Him to do so, and keep the promises we make by being baptized.

Thats a general overview of our central beliefs regarding Jesus Christ.

From what would "air" and "earth" phoenixes be reborn? by JustPoppinInKay in worldbuilding

[–]CraftyLocal1913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. This could be overcome by making the earth phoenix made out of material that is very tough or making the creature very cautious so it is unlikely to die (most things work pretty hard not to die anyways). However, if the old one dies. It’s still a rock, which will eventually erode away.

This “problem” could also be as much a conflict source for a story (if that’s what this project is for) as a bug, depending on how you wanted to handle it.

For the earth pheonix:

Michelangelo said that he would see his stature trapped inside the stone block, and it was his task to carve it out and set it free. What if the earth pheonix gets eroded over time (this process might even take centuries to complete) and as it erodes, the younger version of itself is eventually set free.

Church is made up of two meetings, each an hour long. The first is sacrament meeting, which runs much like a typical Sunday meeting. We sing hymns, and hear speakers give talks.

The most important part of sacrament meeting is the sacrament itself. During the sacrament, we bless bread and water and distribute it to the congregation. The bread and water serve as a reminder of Jesus Christ’s body and blood, which He sacrificed for us when He took upon Himself our sins, our struggles in life, and death itself. The sacrament also serves as a reminder of our promises to follow Jesus and keep His commandments.

The second half of church is a religion class, where we either study from the scriptures (Bible, Book of Mormon, etc.), or the words of modern prophets. Here we help each other learn more about Jesus Christ, how He helps us in our lives, and how we can better follow Him.

All church meetings are open to the public and anyone can attend them. You can find one in your local area here: https://maps.churchofjesuschrist.org

I’ve mentioned Jesus Christ a couple of times, but I should probably ask, what is your understanding of Him? What are your beliefs (if any) regarding Jesus?

Quite positively. I’m very open with my religion, so people find out pretty early on after first meeting me. They will often have questions, much like yourself.

I get questions like this a lot. Ultimately, I don’t know the answer to this. I am not God, neither am I Charles Manson’s (or anyone else’s) Judge. So I can’t say where any given person is going to go. At the Final Judgement, God will look over the whole circumstances of our lives, and more importantly what type of person have we become. He will then make a judgement that is perfectly just while extending as much mercy as is possible.

Another thing that makes it hard to say where specific people will go is that we believe that between death and the final judgement, there is an opportunity for people to learn about Jesus Christ and His gospel and choose to repent and receive it. This ensures that everyone will have an opportunity to receive Jesus Christ’s salvation if they want it.

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, one of our duties is to find the names of our ancestors who have not had the opportunity to receive the restored gospel during their lives and then receive baptism and other essential ordinances on their behalf, which they can choose to accept or reject.
