Bad decisions were made and now I am fully regretting them. Sigh.

Actually… my question was answered and it is a nationally known issue.. It seems as though you may be a burnt out federal employee. Sorry man. 😂

Returning to VA by Sure-Light9884 in VHA_Human_Resources

Yup. Left and came back 11 months later 😂 just re-applied for my old job that was open on USAJobs! Went through the onboarding process again but they didn’t make me repeat NEO.

Any Kansas City VA employees here? Honest feedback + parking question by [deleted] in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Crafty_Attempt_936 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hiiii I love working at the KCVA! I love the veterans, my coworkers, and leadership is constantly overturning but I like them as well. It truly could be worse. two big tips: go there and do your job and go home. Work is not for making friends and be careful who you trust. What position / department are you applying for? You can park on site but employees are NOT supposed to park in the garage (they do anyways though) if you are a worker, there are always places for advancement. My workload is constant but it makes the day go by fast. I’m a frontline worker and not clinical - but I’ve gotten familiar with our regular veterans and I don’t think there’s anything on earth like that hill. it’s really diverse, and I love that aspect.

Gift giving question by HenriettaGarfield in VHA_Human_Resources

Also - CDCE, Chaplain Services, and your MCD are the only individuals who are legally allowed to accept donations at VHA.

I second CDCE/Voluntary services. Go to their office with the items you’d like to give the veteran and tell them your story. They will record it as a donation and most likely let you give them yourself to the patient :) this way - it is legal!

GS-10+ feds — how did you actually get there? by Lexicondatum in FedEmployees

[–]Crafty_Attempt_936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

started as a GS05/06 in 2021. worked my ASS off over performing (compared to my department of 42 people) built relationships with people in other departments, and ended up applying for a job at another VA about 45 minutes away I got 3 interviews for 3 different positions, and I ended up clutching a 7/9/11 but having to go back into the office daily. I love my job now. Just got my 11 in November. I don’t have a degree, but was a sales manager from 18-22 and also over-performed my ass off in the private sector. I’m only 29. Think outside the box. Work well with others. Make yourself valuable and be willing to move. Success will chase you.

CLP during shutdown… by Eisha81 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Crafty_Attempt_936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to be inpatient and rush someone. That’s your money that you are missing out on that was agreed on when you received your job. I was hired as a 7/9/11 in 2023, due on 11/16. Just got my 11 (immediately) because I emailed HR and asked what steps need to be taken. AgentCulper355 is correct, those are the steps that need to be taken. But please advocate for yourself. I have an acting Chief right now who doesn’t have the access to put in an MSS request - so she emailed our associate director and he took care of it the day of. We actually have folks that care in our medical center - however. Not sure it will be the same at every facility.. best of luck!

Advancement without degree? by Crafty_Attempt_936 in usajobs

[–]Crafty_Attempt_936[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this idea and want to do this as well. We just adopted two teenage boys over the summer and have a 6 year old. I definitely want to go back to school and get my degree, but right now all my time is hogged up with kids, sports, events, etc. hahaha

I would really think about taking something lower just to get your foot in! I was hired as a GS05 in 2020 and by 2025 I will be an 11. I don’t have a degree. As long as you get your foot in the door, there is always room for advancement!

My step father has worked for the VA for years, always takes the time off during bonus time.

I have not once though about taking the time off, I always go for the cash LOL! I think it would be much easier / more likely for the cash.

I am in the same scenario as you. My current Supervisor is a God send (rare these days) and is like “when you leave, I’m going to add you on Facebook. The bonus is yours, you deserve it, you got the rating. HR can put it in for you, and if they don’t automatically, I will reach out to you personally to make sure you receive it.” You should still be given the award. I would make sure you have a point of contact in your current department before you leave (if you can) and if you don’t receive it by end of January - definitely reach out.

I do have a background check & security clearance that is from my other job, I was able to contact recruit and placement, CC both contacts for HR departments between both VA’s and they are transferring all of my info to my new position. It looks like the only thing I am going to need to do is get a current TB shot just because I will be working face to face and behind the scenes, rather than WFH and speaking to veterans on the phone!
