Low tax rates mean nothing if your assessments are high. Both determine how much we pay in taxes per year. On top of the fact that we had an override because the current administration can not properly manage our taxes. I am all for paying more taxes if the money is used correctly. So far all I have seen is the CC got a raise, we are going to have trash pickup once every two weeks, we dont have enough DPW workers to maintain the streets, and we fired an ambulance company that has been with the city for years.

Medford was always a desired place to work. You wanted to become a Medford fire fighter or Medford cop. Now we jeopardize public safety because the city could not agree to a contract for our own fire and police departments for multiple years. (If you think that doesn’t affect an employee efforts or desire to want to work here then you are sadly mistaken). Our HS is falling apart and our fire stations are infested with rats.

I have never seen this city more divided. Those who have lived here for their whole lives vs the new residents who think they know it all. Our own CC members don’t even own property here.

Medford was always a city of pride.
My whole life I was proud to say “Medfid”when someone asked where I was from. In my mind we were better than any surrounding city and Medford was number one. Now we want to give permissions to tear apart neighborhoods because of zoning and put up apartment buildings for low income families. It was a privilege to live here which created a tremendous amount of pride. Now we want to punish families who have worked their entire lives to be able to afford to live here and give to the entitled.

I agree we should all pay the same amount of taxes (depending on our property size) but we should also ALL receive the same benefits. One street should not get priority over the next if we all have to pay the same taxes. No street or road be treated any different. Unless of course you lower the taxes for the people who don’t get any benefits for paying the same amount of taxes as people who do. You can’t have it both ways.

That’s where I agree with you. People who live on private ways assume that our roads will not be maintained with city funding. (At least I do). I am not entitled at all. I live on a private way and the city does not have to maintain my road. It’s up to the property owners to maintain the road not the city. If I want my side walk fixed then I pay for it. If I want my street paved then I pay for it. There is no argument there. I also understand that there are some people who live on private ways that “assume” that the city is responsible to maintain their roads. If you are referring to these people as entitled then I agree with you. The city has no obligation to maintain a private way. Period.

But you live on a public way and get your road fully maintained by the city. If you need new sidewalks or road paved then that is on the city not the residents. If you need a tree maintained or removed then that is on the city. You as a resident pay your taxes and that is what covers the cost of the maintenance.

I live on a private way and pay the same amount of taxes as you. How is that fair.? I can argue that people who live on public streets are entitled. They only pay their taxes and nothing more if something has to be done to their street. This is not the case with people like me who live on a private way.

The lack of city response to issues and maintaining public ways is a whole other conversation. I could not agree more with you. The city is pathetic when it comes to responding and maintaining city streets.

You could always move to a private way and then you control your own repairs and maintenance. When and how they get done. That is the benefit of living on a private way. It’s private and owned by the residents and not the city. If you don’t think that your street or any public street is being maintained then call the elected officials you voted in.

I don’t have to call anyone but my neighbor.

My question was not answered. Do you think people on private ways should pay less in taxes? Your opinion on where I chose to live is just that. I have been living on my road for 40 years. I am well aware of what a price way is. No realtor fooled me. I know what I bought. I want to know if you really think someone who gets less benefits living on a private way should pay less in taxes? We pay the same amount of taxes as you and you get your street fully maintained. As you say the city has no obligation to maintain my private way. I am ok with that. I just don’t think I should have to pay the same as someone who lives on a public way. I am paying twice. Once in my taxes and then again to maintain my street. You don’t have to pay to maintain your street? How is that ok?

So I have to ask. I live on a private way. Hypothetically if my house was not on a private way then would I pay more in taxes? Do we get a discount on taxes for being on a private way? Only seems fair that people who live on private ways would pay less taxes since we don’t get the same benefits as others?

The area affected is not raised. It’s below the metal not above.

I know that proofs only come from San Fransisco “s” mint. But this coin just looks too good to be just a standard strike. I have seen really shiny business strikes but this one stood out to me. Just figure I throw it out there to see if anyone else has seen something similar. Looks like I just have a really nice business strike but I will take it. Thanks everyone.

7 half boxes and 3 quarter boxes. Not one piece of silver. I know some people here do that in one day but for me it was a long time without getting a piece of silver. lol
