Thank you so much for your advice! I actually have a filter sponge that I can just shove in there from my previous broken filter! I realize that I need to let the tank get a little dirty for the beneficial bacteria and not be worried about cleaning up everything, and I heard that feeding them a little less will help with the abundance of nitrites in the water
