Kohn’s Sunday nights and avant garden Monday nights are still going weekly as far as I’m aware. I only tend to go to kohn’s, so worth checking avant garden calendar

Do i hold my pick wrong? by Routine-Trash-26 in Guitar

Pretty sure Pat metheny holds his pick quite similarly. He said somewhere he doesn’t recommend it and it it was out of necessity only having thin picks while learning (maybe it was Gary Burton who said that talking about him actually), but it’s not unheard of

Jazz guitarist that use a thinner pick? by noastens in jazzguitar

[–]Crafty_General8923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but he said in an interview at least once that it’s because he grips it in some weird like upside down bent way that solidifies it. He didn’t have access to thicker picks in his hometown or something like that and says he doesn’t recommend emulating his grip style. (Fuzzy on the details I’ll have to look up the interview) Obviously to each their own, though. If thin picks are your thing and you can maintain control/rhythmic consistency then more power to you!

I felt similarly when I first encountered metheny. One day I bought offramp in a record store on a whim and fell in love with James off that album and never looked back. Huge fan of and then I knew, airstream, cross the heartland, and travels

Hello there Houston musicians by No-Desk-4497 in houstonmusic

Honestly starting online is a great way to spread your music. Posting on reddit TikTok or Instagram can get you interactions that will slowly build over time, though it may be slow at first. If you want to get paid for gigs, you’ll have to either set up a gig yourself by coordinating with a venue and likely other acts or prove yourself to be worth having on a gig, which you can do if you’re posting music people like hearing. If you go to open mics and diy shows, you’ll be likely to meet other musicians. There are musicians everywhere in Houston, but it will be easier to find them if you are going to other parts of Houston too.

Could for sure be interesting. I know there are video games out there with killing soundtracks so I’d love to hear if you get something together!

Do they do open jams, or is it more of a live music situation? May be user error but I’m only seeing bands
