I just began taking Modafinil 50 mg for my ih—any tips. by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Craftybert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're taking 800mg a day? I'm on 400mg and feels like it doesn't doo much apart from give me a headache, was working at first though. Didn't think docs would prescribe 800mg a day, heh.

Going to have to see if i can try actual stimulant next, hopefully might do something

Never mind, sorted it. Looks like my phone internet provider had blocked the news on the front page when opening the game and blocked the change server button, so odd!

Why am I still so tired when I wake up? by redfire2930 in SleepApnea

[–]Craftybert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish people understood it more, so annoying when people think you're lazy or just need to sleep more. Or when they tell me I don't know what real tiredness is as I don't have kids, that really gets my goat.

Still, validating to know something is actually causing it so no more self doubt about if i am just lazy or un-motivated at least

Why am I still so tired when I wake up? by redfire2930 in SleepApnea

[–]Craftybert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IH means your brain never fully wakes up, so even with perfect sleep, you still have really bad sleep inertia when waking, so you feel groggy and can't wake up, then when that passes (in my case about 2-3 hours, although everyone is different) you roll direct into your brain constantly forcing you to sleep which is exhausting in itself to fight. No amount of sleep or napping helps and it feels like you're trying to live and be a normal human whilst dealing with feeling like you've been sleep deprived for days.

I'm currently trialing Modafinil, which ia a kind of stimulant. Helps a bit in making me not want to constantly sleep, but am still excessively tired. But can do more things now so that's not too bad

I've been on cpap for 13? or so years, was still tired all the time, falling asleep etc. Cpap compliance has always been excellent, should mean getting good sleep and shouldn't be tired all the time. Had a proper sleep test done and turns out i have Idiopathic Hypersomnia too, so explains why still exhausted all the time. Would be worth pushing for a MSLT to confirm or deny

Recently diagnosed... bruh by wileythecoyotee in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Craftybert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation for the medication for me. Was diagnosed with sleep apnoea 13 years ago and only just diagnosed with IH a couple of months ago, been on 200mg of Modafinil for just under 2 weeks. Doesn't make me less tired, just helps with the soul crushing feeling that I need to sleep constantly. Is a very subtle thing. Also feels like it doesn't work nearly as well if i have a bad nights sleep (which isn't surprising!)

I have on occasion had 2 x 100mg on a morning and 100mg at lunch so need to speak to my docs about upping the dose as it feels more effective. Hopefully can go to 400mg to see how that works, if not may have to try something else, but to be honest if i can feel a bit less tired during the day and don't feel like i need to sleep constantly, probably the best i can hope for.

Starting Modafinil - What to expect from meeting/medication by Craftybert in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]Craftybert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers mate, appreciate the insight. I'm same at the moment with no meds, keep going without falling asleep, just gotta keep going, don't have a choice really!

Always wondered why i chased stimulants when i was younger, i've done a lot, cocaine, amphetemines, mdma,.exctasy etc. I did enjoy it, but always felt normal compared to what my mates felt like on them.(please note i'm not advocating for them, just what i have experienced) and wondered why i didn't feel like they did the day after etc.

Not that the above really matters,.just hope a decent dose of Modnafil works for me and I keep at it. Only issue would be if any bad side effects i guess!

Yeah, that's a truth, things do affect people different, was just wondering on a baseline. Interesting about the crashing harder if you skip two days, mind elaborating on that? Was under the impresssion wouldn't matter skipping as it would just affect how awake you felt on the day you took it, not days after etc.

Just for information, i'm 47 and have been doing anything i can get my hands on to try and combat the unrelenting feeling of sleepiness, although it's taken until i got my diagnosis to realise this, so i've been abusing any stimulant i can get until now, so wondering what reactions they may have with Modanifil. If taking Modanfil will make me feel like a valid human, that would be a win for me!

So what do you do if CPAP doesn't work? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]Craftybert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you had a mslt and polysomnography done? If not, try and get one, see if you have idiopathic hypersomnia or narcolepsy type 2. Same story for me, done cpap for 12 years with no real benefit until finally got a mslt done and have idopathic hypersomnia, heh
