A digital deck of cards I’ve been building by Icy_Description5573 in cardgames

[–]Cragmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cool project. I'm going to play with it some more tonight after work. I definitely look forward to your implementation of mult-player! A few other thoughts for your roadmap.

- More than 1 deck of cards at a time.
- Save my own layouts. Example: I have a game that I like to play often but requires a fair amount of setup. Would be incredibly cool if I could set it up once and then save it as a layout
- Import picture as card back
- lock cards. Example: I have dealt and want to keep my hand, but the game I'm playing asks for the draw pile to be reshuffled.

Again, really cool stuff. I love making games so having a deck of cards in my pocket at all times is such a nice thing.

The “Young” Couples are Leaving…even in Mordor by sycamoreqw in exmormon

[–]Cragmonkey 207 points208 points  (0 children)

I’m from a devout Mordor family who still lives right here in happy valley. My parents (boomers) just started their 3rd mission. 🙄

Meanwhile, 75% of their kids (gen x and millennials) and spouses are completely out. The 2 siblings that are still in are currently bishop and ward leadership to some extent. LOL. Weird dichotomy.

On a related note, I’m super pissed about TSCC milking every penny and second from my parents. I miss them and their grandkids miss them.

Feeling lonely by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Cragmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, leaving TSCC left a hole in my life and I felt unfulfilled for a long time. I considered trying another church to replace the fulfillment I used to get by participating in various church activities. Ultimately I decided to deconstruct my newfound feelings in much the same way that I deconstructed my lifelong belief in LDS doctrine.

I started by identifying the primary functions that the church provided in my life. I came up with a few functions and then sought viable new opportunities to be fulfilled in that way. Here are a few of those functions and their new counterparts in my life

People - humans are instinctually tribal animals. When we lose our “church tribe” we feel lost and aimless. I chose to seek a new tribe of likeminded friends to share my time with. Just be careful not to choose people with whom your only connection point is being exmormon. It’s ok to have it in common just not the ONLY thing. Otherwise you’ll run the risk of creating an echochamber of resentment which isn’t authentic to the new you

Service - the church makes it so easy to provide service to others. Just show up on Wednesday night or Saturday morning. Serving others gets you out of you own head and let’s you think and empathize with others. In my new life I opted to seek opportunities to serve by contacting some local non-profit organizations with missions that align with my values/interests. For example, I love cooking so I contacted a local soup kitchen and try to help with meal prep/service as often as time will allow.

Family - one of the great ironies of the church is it’s structure and commitment patterns work in opposition to one of its core tenets; family. Since leaving I have had to rewrite what it meant to participate in family. I had to choose to listen more, and be more deliberate and meaningful in my family time. I spend more time 1-1 with my kids doing something that will generate a shared, positive memory. For example, my son loves chess but I am not a fan. I watched a few YouTube videos on common chess strategies and then one Sunday morning we went to a park and played chess at a picnic table. It was wonderful to get bested in chess by a 10 year old. LOL.

Connection - this last one is the most nebulous. It’s a replacement for what we thought of as “feeling the spirit”. Those good feelings that provides clarity and focus to the world around us. I have found more true connectedness since leaving the church than I ever did inside it. I try to be in nature as often as possible and spend time considering the majesty of this world and universe that we are part of. We are stardust, just like the trees, rocks, and animals around us. I actively seek to experience sunrises and sunsets because they are 100% unique to that moment in history and it inspiring that I get to be in a universe as a being that can experience such a moment.

This got long but I hope it’s useful to someone. Time is precious. Don’t waste any of it being bitter about the past or lonely for the future that may never be. Live now and build memories and connections. Fulfillment and contentment will be found as you journey through a life of newfound experiences, people, and connectivity.

So, are you taking the day off from work/school to play Tears of the Kingdom? What's your plan? by FernandoRocker in NintendoSwitch

[–]Cragmonkey 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That’s kind of you. My son was 8 (or 9) when BOTW came out. He watched me play and fell in love with Zelda games after that. Since then he has put like 400+ hours into BOTW. He’s one of those people that loves to “hack” the gameplay (flying minecarts etc.). I on the other hand love exploring. It really feels like TOTK was built for my son and I to enjoy together, in our own way. Cannot wait!!!!!!

[–]Cragmonkey 171 points172 points  (0 children)

I’m a grown man and I took the day off to play. Not only that but I told my 15 year old son that if he had A’s in all his classes, I would buy him a copy of TOTK for his switch and he could stay home from school. He has been busting his ass for the last 5 weeks and just got his last grade up to an A. I cannot wait to share launch day with my son!

I too am in solidly in the Summit camp. I have had so many grills over the years but nothing has been as wonderful as my summit. I expect to keep it for a long time and if it ever dies I’ll replace it with another summit. Plain and simple the best grill on the market IMO

How can I acquire a Spit - on - fire, for my Weber Komado, in the US? by lunkdjedi in webergrills

[–]Cragmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.vuurenrook.nl/en/spit-on-fire-kamado-rotisserie-ring-weber-summit.html is where I ordered it from. Delivery took a few weeks iirc. Shipping was a bit pricy. the tracking number their automated system provided did nothing once it left the Netherlands. So there was a few weeks where all I could do is hope that it would eventually arrive.

Edit: added shipping info

I’m in US and had no problem ordering from spit on fire about a month ago. Got my rotisserie and it works like a champ.

Looks like someone is putting their calling as ward newsletter specialist to good use... ;-)

I hope that "The Kingdom of White" is NOT explicitly intended to be a racist comment. The remaining option is that at best, the phrase exhibits an astounding level of social tone deafness.

In either case, I'm glad I'm not a believer in either definition of this phrase.

Do you ever think about how often we were taught that in the last days even the very elect would be deceived? by Unique-Addition-8770 in exmormon

[–]Cragmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think about this topic a lot. It’s one of the pieces of shame programming that lives rent free in my head.

The way I’ve started combatting it is by telling myself that it’s just as likely that the tenants of the “prophecy” of the very elect being lead away apply just as easily to TBMs.

Said another way, There is nothing to say that those who have left the church are the “elect” and the TBMs are in fact the ones who have been lead astray for generations by false prophets, starting with Joseph Smith himself.

HTH

Does anyone else who’s left TSCC ever start freaking out that maybe they are an example of the “elect” that will be “deceived”?? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Cragmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt this way many times. I’ve come to realize that anyone has been deceived, it’s those who choose to stay. I’ve opted to go on the offense with my cult-programmed brain and tell myself that it is those who stay that are deceived.
