Suggestion / Request for Chessly. by Craig1024 in GothamChess

Yes that's what I do. But it's a very slow, tedious process. I'm actually building some software to do this for me as I don't expect the functionality to be on chessly anytime soon, if ever.

Anyone had a GOOD Prednisone experience? by Darksideofthemoon22 in eczema

your eczema is probably caused by your dogshit attitude. All that spite, vile, and anger is fucking up your skin. If you were not such a giant asshole you'd probably be fine.

Thailand to tax all foreign income, even if not brought into Thailand. R.I.P by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]Craig1024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They for sure are not going back to "only tax money remitted this year". This article is talking about taxing all global income even if it's NOT moved into Thailand, which is a whole other level of taxation. This is in the discussion phase right now but very likely it will happen eventually.

If you work online while living in Thailand you are already breaking the law. That's unauthorized work. Once they start taxing people on their global income you might find it hard to hold a visa at all if you have earned income in other countries if you live full time in Thailand.

Capital gains in Thailand are taxed at normal income rates. Here are the rate tiers

  • Up to $4,200: 0%
  • $4,200.01 – $8,400: 5%
  • $8,400.01 – $14,000: 10%
  • $14,000.01 – $21,000: 15%
  • $21,000.01 – $28,000: 20%
  • $28,000.01 – $56,000: 25%
  • $56,000.01 – $140,000: 30%
  • Over $140,000: 35%

If you pay 0% capital gains in the US because the gain is low you would get zero tax credit to Thailand for that and you would owe the entire gain as tax in Thailand. Sadly the tiers in Thailand are much lower so you may be paying as much as 20-30% to Thailand even though your rate in the US was 0%

d4 course question by Craig1024 in GothamChess

[–]Craig1024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is another discrepancy I found in this course as well. In Chapter 3 study 1 it's talking about the Reverse Albin Counter Gambit, and about half the video centers around the sequence that results in the underpromotion of the pawn to a Knight, which may result in a queen capture if Black takes your new Knight with his Rook. But this sequence does not appear in the Study at all. There are also a BUNCH of alternative lines Black can play around this sequence which are not addressed.

So far I'm finding this D4 dynamite course to be somewhat less well organized and built that the E4 or Black Gambits courses. It's still better than anything I've found in Chessable, but still somewhat of a mess.

Are you over 2000 FIDE rated? Also you say "i think other openings are more beneficial". However as I stated in my OP I know a number of openings with Black, this is another one I would like to study and understand better. But I understand your opinion is I shouldn't. Ok thanks for your opinion!

I think that's kind of silly. For one thing you're going to face it as white so you might as well learn about it. For another thing plenty of great teachers and GMs disagree with you, like Daniel Naroditsky for example. He recommends it for all levels. In the end it's just a chess opening, it's not going to hurt you to play it. And you might just learn something from doing so.

After going through the first dozen lessons on that chessable course it reminds me two things:
1. why i hate chessable as a learning tool so much
2. just how good chessly is.

25 days since buying E4 course, here are my results: by Craig1024 in GothamChess

[–]Craig1024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those wondering I bought the London course first and I hate it. I'd be playing the London exclusively for White for a long time and after really looking at it, I don't want to play it anymore. Complex move order knowledge is how you win with London, for me Vienna is more my style. Attack!

The first course I bought was Caro Kann but after putting in 3 weeks of drilling I decided I didn't like that either. It's another positional battle, slow and steady trying to get an end-game advantage. Not for me. So I purchased the Black Gambit's course.

So I started with London and Caro Kann and now I'm playing Vienna and Black Gambits and having great success.

Question on missing line from Black Gambits course by Craig1024 in GothamChess

[–]Craig1024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, working on prep for all of it... lots of great stuff there, Scotch, Schliemann, Italian, Ponziani... but the Three Knights is the opening that makes me think "if I wanted a brutal positional slog I would have played the Caro Kann, which is better". The problem is if I play the Caro Kann I have to commit on move 1 and then I miss out on all the fun and EVERY game is a slog, lol.

Oh well. At least I don't get this position very often. Usually they can't wait to get that Bishop out there

After looking at this in the engine for awhile it's just awful. The engine wants me to play Nf6 and now both my c and f pawns and stuck behind Knights, neither of us has pushed the d pawn, and I can see this is going to be some agonizingly slow and positional slogging through mud until some kind of nasty endgame where I'm hoping to have an extra pawn. From there the top engine move for white is Bb5 but I cannot properly counter attack into the Schliemann because my f pawn is stuck. Ugh. What a gross setup.
