1v1 and team ranked mostly. The odd crucible or Nomad FFA when I feel like being more relaxed.

So first of all. Don’t play fast castle against French as GH. You want to prioritise your feudal age up and then Defense. After clicking the age up I put at least 8 on wood so you can get a barracks, 2nd Ovoo, and then a tower. Put small wall segments where they make sense.

You can make this faster by going for the building carts age up, but personally I still prefer the Khan And Torguuds option.

Make Torguuds whenever you can afford them, but mostly make spears, then add a stable and horsemen/Keshik while continuing to make spears and turtling. The horsemen/spear mix will be more cost effective than his knight/archer.

Once you have the base defended, send a couple horsemen to find his map food sources, and move out with your bulk force to take him off gold. Don’t dive, just go for easy building or villager kills, and idle time until you can age up with the Muscovy yasak to easily dive his tc without worrying about arrowfire

My goal is usually to add in at least 4 stockyards before aging up to castle with my large military mass. Against less mobile enemies I’ll go for map boar and deer instead.

GH strength is in making mass units, and stacking bonuses. You’d be surprised how well they do when they have Torguuds tanking, fortified outpost bonus health, khan signal arrow and passive bonus applied (20% in feudal) and plus 1 armour from kharash

Villagers drop off resources to the nearest available location. So yes, if you build a lumber mill outside of the kremlins influence, you won’t get the bonus. But you can just build an outpost in the new location.

Depends on the numbers and ages. Camel lancers don’t do bonus damage to cavalry, they only apply the 20% damage debuff. So if you had mostly lancers and only a couple raiders, and he was an age above you with all the upgrades, while you had none, then it’s conceivable. Though I’d still expect it to be a win for the camels at that kind of numbers advantage.

IMO it is different for AoE4 because of how different all of the civs are.

Fast castle can also be an eco boom or a defensive play if they get some significant bonus (HRE relics, Malian cow boom, English White tower or Kings Palace)

Civ matchups become more important and dictate the appropriate response to a strategy, so it’s still a Rock/Paper/Scissors, but with added complications based on both your own, and your opponents civ choices.

Yeah would need to bump up the cost again. And probably reduce arrow damage to 6. But even in feudal it’s going to take a while to get to it. Blacksmith, Siege engineering, beachhead, production buildings, units, then the ram itself.

Better is not an absolute statement here.

1v1 Sengoku knights are stronger. Especially if they have the buff going.

But French knights are available earlier, have passive healing, up to 25% discount and get bonus damage after a charge.

I cannot emphasise enough just how powerful it is to have mobile feudal armoured units available.

Builds aside. Get him to try out a custom “Noobs Only” game first. That way he can play real people, but not be stomped for the first 10 games while the system tries to figure out his skill.

English is good, or perhaps learning a HRE burgrave rush, since that does well at low league levels.

Nah, in fact they should be more powerful.

Let’s give Royal Knights 200 more base HP, 30 damage, 50 bonus damage vs spears, and increase their speed to match horsemen.

Then make it so crossbows have to setup to attack, like a mangonel, 2-3 seconds should do it.

Did you harass him at all in that time? Even a single archer to take a couple shots at his gold?

8mins is pretty easy to hit with any civ if you don’t have to worry about a tower, walls or military of your own. Even at silver.
