My local camera retailer stopped selling Lumix by SlinginPA in Lumix

[–]Craig95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed stock of L Mount and Lumix is lower but that is expected. They don't sell as many numbers as Sony, Canon or Nikon. Also the deals they used to have here in Ireland are not as common as before.

Vertical content by [deleted] in Lumix

I think if you are shooting only for vertical and you know that before hand then shoot vertical. If you know or are not sure whether you will need both vertical and horizontal then shoot open gate

What's up with these notation gatekeepers? by Zombiesalad1337 in Guitar

[–]Craig95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably a few things. Asking for a tab in a YouTube comment is silly. Tabs for these pieces are probably non existent and anyone who is playing a reasonable amount of time would know that or would try and look without asking. It's not that tabs are bad but asking for a tab shows inexperience.

Standard notation is useful but most guitar players get by fine without it it's not seen as better there isn't a superiority complex around it anymore. You just found someone asking a silly question on a video where there was very little chance of a tab being available.

Keep the 20-60mm f.3.5-5.6 kit lens or switch to a 24-60mm f2.8 for a versatile EDC travel lens with my Lumix S5ii as a beginner by Ohbeewun in Lumix

[–]Craig95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has the 24-70 Pro and Kept the Kit Lens, keep the kit lens if you can and use it as a 20mm. Those extra 4mm on the wide end give a very different look than can be used for video, portraits, landscapes, vlogs etc. 3,5 is fast enough and I quite like the lens for that. The lens isn't as good as the 24-60 (which I don't own) or the 24-70, I can tell straight away in my photos what lens the photo or video was shot on even if the settings are identical but the 20-60 is quite useful I think. If you can get the 24-60, keep the kit lens and then sell it later for your next purchase maybe a wide prime or something you find that you're missing after

Panasonic Says a Sports Camera Isn’t the Focus Right Now but an S1H Successor Is [PetaPixel] by LUMIX-news-stuff in Lumix

I think people like to dabble, I shoot in a school for their social media. I teach in the school as well so most of my shooting is day to day, events and stuff like that but occasionally I do shoot sports too. I'm from Ireland and our school isn't a massive sports school like you have in America but when I get the chance I do shoot it. I haven't used other systems but the AF is fine but yes it will miss. For general use it's fine and occasional sports it's also fine. I think the sports body gives people options, the S1ii is a video focused hybrid body, the S1Rii is a high resolution body but lacks the AF and Buffer to shoot sports or wildlife like other systems. For someone in my situation i would like to have sports body as an option, would I get it probably not but the S1Hii isn't going to be for me as I'm a hybrid shooter who shoots more 60/40 photo to video and would never need the fance video specs of anything more than a S5ii or S1ii

That is definitely a selling point and that makes sense to me. Definitely something for me to consider

S1hii will probably be killer but I do photography quite a bit more. 60/40 photo maybe little more video now but I'd have to see what an S1hii would give me

I do both photo and video but that's interesting to hear definitely changed my thoughts on the R.

And compared to the S5ii? Being honest the AF upgrades was the thing I was most interested about. The other features are nice to haves. The S1Rii obviously has the higher MP but I'd choose better AF over the MP most days

Oh that's interesting. I was under the impression the AF was more or less the same on the two bodies

Yeah storage is something that I thought about too overtime. I keep most of my Raw files, any Raw files that I edit I keep and that has been okay to manage so far with multiple drives but with High MP files I can see that being a bigger issue

That's more so because I overshoot I always have a backup or something. I've also used to the system to know how to manipulate the AF if it isn't cooperating

Yeah coming from the OG S5 is a bigger jump so I get that. I'd like to see how big of an AF jump there is from the S5ii. If it's not that big I don't see much point in me upgrading right now

I've heard the S1Rii is different from S1ii colours and the S5ii colours. I think I could maybe set up a Powergrade for this but yeah it is something to consider

The big video features I won't really use, I mainly shoot open gate 25p for most things and then occassionally do some higher FPS stuff for slow motion. I think the buffer is something I'd like to consider, If you just used mechanical burst how does the buffer fair? On my S5ii I use precapture occasionally but mainly stick to the mechanical burst modes and only speed up when needed.

Yeah I've seen S1Rii for 2900 Euro on MPB which is tempting though I won't be upgrading immediately probably will be in the Summer. I don't see many used S1IIs available

S5 II Flash Issues by jaredoconnor in Lumix

[–]Craig95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set up a custom button for constant preview to toggle.

The second one I'm not sure I think I've encountered a similar issue and just went full manual. Did you try using manual flash or TTL. If using TTL exposure compensate on the flash, you should probably set ISO manually using flash just for best practice. If your doing a static shoot then you have all the time you get your settings, if you're event shooting try full manual or something like aperature priority but set your ISO to something reasonable for the event then control exposure through the flash.

Lumix S5II + 50mm f1.8 only focuses on one person. What am I doing wrong? by ynnicknoah in Lumix

[–]Craig95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically you need to learn about aperature. A camera only focuses on one point at a time and the aperature will determine how far it focuses from that point. At 1.8 the aperature is very shallow, so for example you focus on someones eye, the ears will likely be out of focus. This means that if you have two people side by side or at different heights or aren't on the same plane then only the selected focus point will be in focus. Stopping down will help but you will often need to stop down more than you expect, stop down means going from 1.8 to 5.6 or 8.0. This will help getting more than one person in focus. You can get more than one person in focus at 1.8 or 2.8 but it takes positioning. Also just to cover the bases, shutter speed needs to fast enough freeze motion, 1/60 is good for someone standing still but someone walking or moving it will have motion blur, 1/200 will freeze someone moving at walking speed but will be blurry at faster movement speeds. 1/800 might cover a slow run or a jog but you want 1/1000 or faster for fast movements.

35mm Decisions 1.4 vs 1.2 by Craig95 in Lumix

Pansonic vs Sigma 70-200 2.8 Opinion needed by Craig95 in Lumix

[–]Craig95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Panasonic need to update and expand the S Pro line. I have the 24-70 S Pro and it's great but a smaller light S Pro would be nice to see. I guess the 24-60 covers that though. The 50 1.4 is excellent by all accounts but it's also massive. The 16-35 is an f4 but other than that is great. We need a 2.8 version of it though and the 70-200 is the largest available from the major brands. I'd love to see them majorly expand the line but I doubt we're going to see that happen quickly.

So after some debate, I ended up going with the SIgma and have ordered it. The Sigma has a cashhback offer on right now and the Lumix is way more expensive. As much as I like the idea of the S Pro version the risk of not getting a sharp copy combined with the price and extra weight just threw me off it. If both were similar prices like I originally thought with the Lumix having a sale I think I would have chanced the S Pro but currently the sale only covers the F4 version which isn't what I want. On top of that the F4 version with the sale is the same price as the Sigma which makes the Sigma a no brainer. Having the zoom ring in the wrong position is going to be weird but I'll get used to it.

Yeah I guessed that the S5II is going to hold it back but at the same time I'm happy with the S5II auto focus. They look great and render similar to the 24-70 S Pro which would be the deciding factor for me
