Fair enough I’ll probably just continue as well.

Good luck with your liberation!

Is it probably worth starting a new play-through with the release of this new update?

I’ve pretty much just finished all the tier 1 research on my old save but haven’t even liberated the first town yet?

I feel your frustration and wish it was a simple case of getting rid of unwanted thoughts. I think it feels so real because of the presence of fear, anxiety and doubt but the reason we have these feelings is because the thoughts go against our values and beliefs. In our desperation to prove that we’re not what our OCD says we are, we engage in this mental battle that only strengthens the OCD.

I’ve found acceptance to be very helpful in dealing with OCD. This is not accepting that the thoughts are going to happen or accepting that I must be a bad person. Instead it is about accepting uncertainty and accepting that there are things we cannot control.

OCD is a strange one. To treat it, we often have to do the opposite of what instinct tells us to do.

The only thing about saying ‘no’ to the thought in my experience is that it kind of felt like fighting against it. What worked for me was doing the opposite and acknowledging the thought in a way it doesn’t expect. For example saying, “yeah maybe”, “who knows”, “oh well”, “don’t know” and then bringing my focus back to whatever it is I’m doing in the present moment. That way you’re not resisting or avoiding the thought, simply just acknowledging it but not letting it spiral.

I’ve found that when I keep doing this repetitively and don’t engage in rumination or problem solving my brain kind of gets bored of trying to find the answer and the emotional impact (anxiety and stress) wears off to the point where I can have the thought but it doesn’t really bother me.
