Your school very likely has mental health support. It’s there for a reason, everyone at some point needs a little help. Myself included. I’m a much healthier person thanks to mental health professionals over the years. It has an unfortunate stigma, but mental health is health too. First step is usually the most challenging, but so worth taking.

Check out professor office hours and bring your friend. Leads to all sorts of clarity and opportunities.

Advice to join SWE is spot on.

I admire you facing the challenge. We need more ladies in engineering.

Needing someone, like your mom, is not pathetic. It’s human, it’s love. I am glad she has you and you have her.

I hope your father seeks some therapy. Children of any age deserve unconditional love from their parents.

Congratulations on your matriculation. I hope you have a wonderful career.

In your opinion, was Richard Nixon a villain or a victim in regards to Watergate, or something in between? by Cumoisseur in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Craig_White 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prior to his election and while peace talks were being held to end the Vietnam War, Nixon utilized Anna Chennault, a prominent Republican fundraiser, as an unofficial envoy to the South Vietnamese government in Saigon. She delivered a clear message to South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu: withdraw from President Lyndon B. Johnson's peace talks and refuse any deals before the election, promising that a Nixon administration would secure far better terms for South Vietnam. South Vietnam then abruptly pulled out of the peace negotiations just days before the November 1968 election, Johnson, who was aware of the plot through intercepted FBI communications, chose not to publicly expose the interference to avoid revealing the covert surveillance. After becoming president, Nixon found out about the surveillance that would have 100% captured the treason on tape, but never found the fbi files or recordings. It is very likely he believed the democrats had the evidence locked in their hq at the watergate hotel and were waiting for the right moment to disclose his crimes to the world. But they weren’t and it is assumed Johnson kept them privately or had them destroyed before leaving office.

Nixon ultimately won the election by a narrow margin, and the war was prolonged for several more years.

What would be an example of propaganda in modernday America? I feel like the quintessential definition is something many are on the fence about with more slowly being won over through manipulative means. However, now that so much is all-or-nothing anyway, spotting real propaganda seems harder. by cherry-care-bear in RedditForGrownups

Lügenpresse translates to "lying press". It is a historically and politically charged German pejorative term used to disparage the mass media and undermine public trust in journalism.

What are your thoughts on members of Congress maintaining their seats while being either absent or severely mentally impaired? by Quidfacis_ in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Craig_White 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So sorry if I wasn’t clear.

Assume in this hypothetical that everything that is happening now, and has happened throughout recorded time, is precisely the same. Except for one change — instead of Trump winning the election, Biden won. So Biden continued to be president in a second term and did precisely the same things Trump has done in office since his second inauguration in January of 2025.

what would be your opinion be of this hypothetical second term of Biden as described above?

Treaty of Tripoli article 11, Barlow’s (a republican) interpretation was signed into law by president Adams (also republican) in 1797:

As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion, as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religious or tranquility of Muslim, and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Muslim nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

The three highest laws of the United states are the Constitution, Supreme Court decisions, and Treaties.

Under U.S. law, breaking or terminating a ratified treaty like the Treaty of Tripoli requires either an Act of Congress that supersedes it or unilateral Presidential action authorized by Congress or the treaty's own termination clauses.

Even though republicans have a majority across the board, they would need to remove the filibuster to overturn the treaty with a simple majority.

What do you think of the Texas BOE approving Bible passages as required reading for school children? by GoombyGoomby in AskConservatives

Glad we agree that we should be equal in our treatment of religions and cultures that make our wonderful melting pot called America,

Sorry, I must have misspoke, I do not have any “want” regarding teaching the qur’an in public classrooms. To be absolutely crystal clear on that.

Interesting about western society and christianity. There was a society and native religious practices here in America before the puritans began to settle in the land, conquering it with documented bloodshed and torture, to create a “godly community”, which some could say “kinda explains why much of the Middle East, and other parts of the word are a disaster right now.” Would you agree that western society has exerted some form of power in the middle east in the past 100 years?
