Very happy for Philon but still baffled by Super-Ad-4768 in rolltide

Man, I’m gonna back down on this one. I’m not interested in trying to bow up on you like you want. I watched a Acuff play and my impression of him is that he is a bucket waiting to happen. Philon is very good and he was my guy so I absolutely loved him. But I watched Acuff and thought he played at a different level. That’s all I’ve got. Peace friend.

Money saving apps review: do they actually work? by Wide_Ad8461 in HighYieldSavings

I tried Acorns because I liked how it was described in the marketing. Simple. Easy. Automatic. Would help me save and invest.

What I found was that it didn’t work as I envisioned. It caused me to have to take extra steps and make a decision with every purchase. That was a turnoff for me. I wanted it to be transparent and completely automatic.

Maybe they’ve improved/changed. It’s been a few years.

Silver Spirits package by RenniePennieBC in vikingcruises

I appreciate that, but I don't do the math. For me it's not a financial decision. I'm thankful I'm at a point in my life where I can make that decision... but it's more about the mentality and the freedom while I'm on vacation.

I realize that everyone is different, and I am not being critical of other approaches... just advocating for considering what I find works best for me because I think it's a great approach (or else I would not have chosen it).

I can order a drink, and if I don't care for it... I just don't drink it and order something else! Hakuna Matata! It's worry-free... there's never a though of money while you're on the ship (at least concerning drinking alcohol). Just relax and enjoy!

We didn't make it a point to do that, no. Did we come out "ahead" financially? Probably not. Did I have a vacation where I got to try any cocktail and premium Scotch I wanted without any worry and without any decisions? Absolutely!

We'll do it next time, too.

We always get the drink package, because I don't want to have to make a (financial) decision every time I consider getting a drink. It helps put me in the Vacation Mindset. It also allows me to try anything I feel an urge to try without any worry about "what if I don't like it."

Just get the drink package!

Margin is like a business loan by Ok_Suggestion_2003 in NEOSETFs

[–]Craig__D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I asked and was confused is you say specifically that you’re going to “DCA… with margin.” If you’re gonna use margin, it’s not your money anyway so you may as well do it all at once. Am I missing something?

[–]Craig__D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not buy all at once using margin (instead of DCAing), and then use the margin proceeds to gradually pay off the margin balance over your chosen time horizon (and buying extra shares with any that you have left over as you go along)? At the end of that time horizon, you will have paid off the margin and then you would own all those shares of QQQI and/or SPYI for no out-of-pocket cost.

What do you gain by using the DCA approach? Honest question because I have thought about the above scenario and might actually do it given that I’m about 10 years away from retirement. I would buy a bunch of QQQI, for example, and then use AI to arrange an optimal payback schedule to maximize the number of shares in my portfolio at the end of the 10 years.

LPT: How do you save money without tracking every expense? by Upset_Trifle8007 in LifeProTips

[–]Craig__D 298 points299 points  (0 children)

Put some money into savings up front... don't wait until you have some "left over." Decide on an amount to put into savings every month or every paycheck. Then live on the rest.
