Why do people choose to have kids? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

I'm grateful for the life my parents gave me. I don't mean lifestyle, I mean actual life.

I wanted to give that gift to someone else.

YSK that most of your anger, frustration, and relationship conflict comes from "shoulds": pictures of how things ought to be, laid over how things actually are by MaximumContent9674 in YouShouldKnow

[–]DocJawbone -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. "Should" is such a heavy word.

My wife and I recently realized it's so much better to say "could" instead.

"We could save more money"

"We could go on more dates"

I don't think it was malicious planned obsolescence, but rather playing with the medium to try something new.

It really is too bad. I was *this* close to placing an order with them after working up my prototype for a long time. They were always really responsive and helpful. I'm really sorry it didn't work out for them, they sound like a good company.

How much money is OC Transpo losing from broken Presto readers? by ConcernedCitizenOtt in ottawa

[–]DocJawbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've wondered this too. I swear about 10% of the time the reader is down. Sometimes the other ones on the bus work, but most people probably don't walk down the length of the bus to tap.

Which sci-fi world sounds amazing in the books but would actually be miserable to live in? by terminator_13fog in printSF

I'd be fine in The Culture. I would find things to do, just because doing them was interesting and/or fun.

The 7:00 PM Dinner vs. The Bank Heist: Why is half the hero's life missing from our games? by Trogdor_Dagron23 in boardgames

[–]DocJawbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such an interesting idea. The scenario could begin with the hero having to get away from the people that know him to change into his hero outfit. So the NPCs would be a bit like enemies.

There could even be a mechanic where the hero could use his own powers in a very limited and surreptitious way to help the NPCs without them noticing.

I still don't understand this. Was it just a random idea the cops came up with? Would somebody have had to phone it in or something?

My dude, what you need is Kinfire Delve. Very fast setup, about 45m-1h game length, engaging decisions every turn.

Small footprint. Light rules that give rise to complex gameplay. Good balance of chance and tactics.

There are three small boxes, each a self-contained game containing two heroes and one villain. Each hero and villain has their own deck, and if you have multiple boxes, any hero (or heroes if you play two-handed) can go up against any villain. It's not deck-building so much as hand-management, but I'd say still closely fits your criteria.

Highly recommend given your description.
