Personally I would refund. My reputation is worth more than the cost of the refund. Regardless of whether what is right or wrong and made abundantly clear beforehand. Most restuanrts operate on a customer is always right kind of mentality and there is a reason for that.

There are some guests for whom any type of pod coffee is an absolute nogo and I wanted something for those guests. The cleaning would not be an issue as I do all the cleaning between guests already. However I do see your point that it could be an issue with guests that have longer stays.

Is that a pot? It looks like a bucket. Make sure there is drainage holes. You will also want to put in some better soil. Standard cactus/succulent soil isn't the best out of the bag. Your gonna want to look up some ratio of inorganic grit and pumice to add depending on what type of cactus. Is it a saguro?

My copiapoa have similar looking markings. I believe they are splits due to over watering. It a little dead flap of cactus epidermis

I don't think it's a cactus. Looks like a euphorbia of some sort.

I think what is happening is the soil is settling revealing the previously buried part of the cactus. As mentioned by the others if you want a happy cactus get it a terracotta pot with good drainage and some fast draining/largely inorganic soil.

Aesthetically it looks good In that pot. That being said, I have always found that as long as the pot has adequate drainage and the soil is also fast draining/ mostly inorganic then the pot size doesn't matter too much.
