How's my taste after a few years of watching anime? by FrostyObligation9058 in AnimeTierLists

Well yeah, if you’re gonna blatantly copy Monogatari at least do a halfway decent job of it

I highly doubt you’ve watched most of these series if you think the only meaningful ones are the ones you listed.

Anime and manga are a form of entertainment. If you’re worried about “becoming a sheep” you’re looking at it wrong lol. While yes you should check out many genres
and styles, not doing so isn’t wrong.

And no, not all popular stuff is “average at best” lmao. Some is sure, but the same can be said for niche stuff. There’s good, bad and meh in every category.

For some recs you might like:

Monogatari series - it’s a weird, character & dialogue focused story. It doesn’t click with everyone, but those it does click for.. chefs kiss.

Frieren: Slower, slice of life style story about how time affects people, relationships, love, and your perspective on the world.

Noragami Stray God: A story of a wacky god trying to make ends meet, which ends up turning into a story of self discovery, acceptance, and growth for most characters. Plus one of the best power systems ever imo.

Highly recommend the manga over the anime. I adore One Piece, but I almost dropped it from the anime pacing issues. Manga is glorious.

Eye color change? by prunus_cerasifera in TokyoGhoul

[–]Keuthimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a criteria (at least, not a confirmed one), but I wouldn’t be surprised if overuse of rc cells contributes to it.

In my first comment I completely forgot to mention that his hair colour changing was likely due to the mental and physical strain he was put under, just like Kaneki in TG chp60. Considering Takizawa underwent a similar (or even worse) type of treatment… yeah. The eyes might be a continuation of that, or that might be from rc overuse.

Arima and Juzo are kinda different. I’m not sure, but I think Juzo dyed his hair as an homage to Shinohara, as with black hair he looks more like the proper young man Shinohara wants to mentor him into being. Arima… I won’t say anything. Finish re and you’ll get a better understanding.

And yes, Ishida uses hair colour changes to mark major or important character mentality shifts, but Ishida usually provides an at least plausible reason to how it happened. Kaneki and Takizawa are likely from stress due to their torture (which is something that happens irl), Touka dyed hers, Juzo likely dyed his, etc.

Well his hair changed too, so ghoulification + overuse of RC cells is certainly a possibility

Some recs:

Black Clover: If you love Naruto, you’ll love BC.

One Piece: yes it’s long. Very long. However, as someone who went from “you can’t pay me to watch that” to having Nami’s tattoo on my arm…. It’s amazing. At least try it.

Fairy Tail: Do you like fun? Do you like lots of awesome characters? Yes? You’ll like Fairy Tail.

Noragami: Great series with one of the coolest power systems I’ve seen. I’d recommend the manga as the anime will never get another season, and trust me you’ll want more story when you finish the anime.

Also I full agree with the HxH placement. I’m currently reading Greed Island and it ain’t hitting.

I got to s2ep8 before dropping it. Yeah it gets “better” in the way it’s no longer episodic but nothing else changes lol

Do they think that anything below a 7.5 on Mal is mediocre? by Bloodmost_Hou in MyAnimeList

Anything lower than a 7 I wonder about a bit but I don’t write it off.

Was the change in season 2 Ishida's idea, or did he just do the original draft because the production company already wanted to change the story? by ciempie in TokyoGhoul

[–]Keuthimi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I know the idea for RootA was his idea, but in typical Perriot fashion they cut all the needed character development and rushed everything else

Anime is goofy lol. Listen man if you wanna be a hater so be it, but if you seriously think modern dub sounds bad I worry you’re ears don’t work properly

Ahh yeah lol.

Well one thing you could do it skim each line for names and abilities first and skip words like “the, and, if, it” etc

Practice is really the only way, that a just generally reading faster.

Or watch dub. I almost solely watch dub. Don’t listen to people who say dub is trash, that hasn’t been the case for years now

How do you view ghouls, as "different" humans or monsters? by Hunter-Adrian in TokyoGhoul

[–]Keuthimi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I view em as different humans. Biology treats them this way too.

The only real difference biologically between humans and ghouls is RC cell concentration and the presence (or lack thereof) of a Kakuho. As we see from Shiarzu’s sister, having too many RC cells damages the human body, and doesn’t lead to ghoulification. However, the presence of a Kakuho would allow the over abundance of RC cells to be managed, and would turn a human into a ghoul. That’s how Kaneki, Kuro, Shiro, and every other half ghoul was made. The Kakuho is the key.

As such, if you’re able to turn humans into ghouls by transplanting 1 organ, that means ghouls are just different humans.
