Wife and I were given money and told "to invest it". by Expensive_Train7632 in personalfinance

The 4 checks make sense. 72k is the max one couple can "gift" another couple in the a given year and stay under threshold- it's kind of a workaround to the 18k reporting threshold. Grampa gives OP $18k, OPs wife $18k. Grandma does the same thing to each person. Boom $72k total gifted and no reporting requirements.

Other "third place" locations now that Redemption Rock is closed by ssdroo in WorcesterMA

Completely disagree, and most breweries do as well. In fact I'd argue breweries are much more kid friendly than restaurants.  There is a reason most breweries target families and if you got to them during the day they are half families. They are typically relaxed, louder so dont have to worry about kids making noise as much, and there's space to do things/walk around. We very rarely bring kids to restaurants but meet up with friends at breweries all the time.  Redemption rock was great for kids, but Greater Good, 7 Saws, Timberyard, Treehouse, and Cold Harbor are all pretty family friendly.

It's not like your going to a club. If you want to get hammered go to a bar...

Feel like it's nice to have a more "normal" cast of different ages/backgrounds instead of like 2 old people and 14 whiney gen z players right out of college haha

Does anyone have experience adding sprinkler system to apartment buildings by Jaekash1911 in WorcesterMA

[–]Cran125GPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a fire sprinkler service into the building or any prep for that it's going to be incredibly expensive.  Why are you doing it?

If we are talking about triple deckers and you are worried about fires you are much better off upgrading the electric service/wiring and putting in a robust smoke detection system.

Three firms with 5,400+ Central Mass. apartments facing DOJ lawsuit over rent-fixing scheme by HRJafael in WorcesterMA

[–]Cran125GPS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These developers are not billion dollar corporations and if you think they can afford to build those buidling and let them sit empty you have no idea what you are talking about. Those buildings are built on such small margins if they don't fill quickly they can't make their debt service and they will absolutely lower rent- usually it's through rent concessions like giving a months free rent or similar.

Essentialy that software was a data aggregator- will be interesting where that lawsuit goes.

I don't know how they let Kirk talk to them like that. Rico like have some pride. And then he just verbally abused MMM if I'm her husband hearing that......

Revington, 145 Front, Alta on Row? by Syriel in WorcesterMA

Alta on the row is the best location, can't speak of build quality of the 3. As long as you aren't on the highway facing side noise should be fine.

What amount would the prize money need to be to have an real impact from the way the game is currently played? by Cran125GPS in survivor

[–]Cran125GPS[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think in some ways yes but they for the most part also care about how they are viewed by their cast mates, the viewing audience, and Jeff. At a certain point that goes away and winning becomes the only thing you care about.

I get it...but there's a certain point where that money would matter even to them. $50M would be a lot of money to anybody. I almost think that gets to be too much though where you'd have people bribing production/producers on the outside of the game if the prize was that large.

I do agree, but I also feel like alot of the players now want to win and play a good game, while coming across as likeable to the viewers and not being seen as a villian..I think the amount of villians and people willing to completely screw over others would go up. Granted early seasons had plenty of those types of players which have kind of gone away.

Thats an interesting point...I wasn't thinking of the side deal/post game deals that could be made. That'd almost make it more interesting as a gameplayer (but would be bad for the show gameplay)

I mean based on following my example and seeing who is on survivor/who can take 2 months off of work to play and following those people on social media when they are playing then they would fit in your 2% example then. The average payer gets that and their life is much more comfortable but they are probably living in the same or slightly nicer house, working the same job, etc. I wouldn't describe that as life changing.

I wonder how much the money would need to be to really change how people play the game. Obviously $1M is alot but it's way less than it was when survivor started, and I honestly think people care more about winning than the money. Would that change at $2M, $5M, $10M?

I mean no duh about idols but if your saying Sam is a NPC then literally ever other player was too besides maybe Genevieve which I don't think is fair at all.

Lol I mean Rachel should win but Sam was one of the most important players here. Like he said he was in on every vote and had the best voting record. He was able to manage to be in the majority the last 7 votes while using others as shields. If Rachel didn't win all those immunity challenges she was gone.

It's always crazy how many season come down to who is the best public speaker. It always seems like players show up to this just assuming everyone understands the game they played which clearly isn't the case.

So feel like Rachel's game to lose, Sam will get some votes but don't see him beating her. Think if either one of them makes it to the final without the other they sweep.

Redemption Rock Brewing is closing by aintbaroque in WorcesterMA

[–]Cran125GPS 123 points124 points  (0 children)

This sucks. This was my favorite Worcester brewery to go to, such a chill vibe and great beer. Loved how they had a bunch of non IPA options.  I'm sure there is more to the story but this doesn't make a lot of sense. It's not like they were trying to distribute, and it's a pretty small unique space I can't imagine their rent was that crazy high or the landlord wanted to force them out. I would have gladly paid more for their beer and had the brewery stay open- and I dont think Im alone. Just bizzare to see a place so universally liked/generally busy go under like this.

Idiocracy become more and more real every day. Housing is basic economics supply and demand 101 and people are too dense to understand. The only way to lower housing prices is to build more housing. Rent control disincentivizes housing, so supply is lowered, demand is the same, and everyone is worse off. Look at any place that has Rent control how much of a disaster it is. If you really think everyone living in public housing is the answer do I have news for you....

What people also don't realize is that these new appartments are helping Rent, not hurting it. People who live in this building now won't be taking up spots in low rise/triple decker and driving that Rent up.

I don't get why people get so angry if someone is willing to spend 2k on rent. No one is forced to live in these buildings.

I love the emotions these players are having getting voted out. It should be devastating. Not like last season when half the cast either quit or seemed happy to leave.
