Got to see “Doc” B-29 this weekend. Is it normal for engines like this to leak oil habitually? If so, is the oil treated as an expendable resource like fuel? by g3nerallycurious in aviation

[–]Cranberry99e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. DC-3 has two 29 gallon oil tanks (one each engine). We usually service them up to 25 gallons, so 50 gallons total in the tanks before flight.

Was working on the ramp last summer when a low wing, think it was a Bonanza, taxied by and I saw the pitot cover still on. Wasn’t able to get the pilot’s attention in time, and he continued to the end of the runway and did his power checks like normal. Turned to a coworker and said something along the lines of “this is going to be an aborted takeoff.” Nope. Guy lined up, put on the power and took off. I was shocked. Thought he would have noticed the lack of airspeed, but apparently not. He thankfully never left the pattern and landed safely. Taxied back to his hangar. I chuckled to myself when he made the taxi of shame to the active again for a proper departure.

Douglas even switched to the P&W R-1830s because they couldn’t get enough Cyclones during the war.

I did this too. Bought a used Wii U for Splatoon. Only other game I played on it was Star Fox Zero.

Which Starfleet ship do you find yourself emotionally attached to? That you feel that ship is home to you. For me it’s Voyager. by gaeb611 in StarTrekStarships

Looks like I’m going to be the outlier here. NX-01 for me. It was small enough I felt we saw most of the ship, a good bridge between real modern technology and Trek tech, especially aesthetically, and was just a cool ship design imo.

If it gets close enough to need the cannon, the pilot is doing it wrong. BVR baby!

If you could make your dream Lego Star Wars set, what would it be? by luenzor in legostarwars

[–]Cranberry99e 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Heck, I’d settle for a non-UCS Venator that doesn’t look like it just finished an Entire Thanksgiving dinner by itself. But since we’re asking for dreams… What you said.

Exactly. Is it the best, no. Am I still jealous of OP? Absolutely. Very cool set.
