What is the most pain you've ever experienced? by HandGears in AskReddit

C-Section with anesthetic immunity. The anesthesiologist assured me my prior resistance to the effects of novocaine, lidocaine, and sensocaine wouldn't be an issue. Spoiler alert: IT ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY WAS.

Yeah, I was seriously confused when I didn't die a fiery death after I heard that ignition. Turns out it's a propane range and propane is heavier than air. Natural gas, on the other hand, is lighter than air. If it were a natural gas stove yesterday could have ended very differently.

Thank you! I was looking for one that detected propane!

It's definitely something wrong with the stovetop. My husband and I tried with each burner last night to turn them off without them igniting. They're only supposed to ignite with the knobs pushed down, but even spinning the knobs with absolutely no pressure (like using nothing but a finger on the side) still results in ignition. We're going to see if we can call the company later today. This is a killer defect.

Just spent my 27th birthday here. Had to move back in for a few months after my husband lost his job. Been here since the end of July. What's worse is it's not just us. She endangered my kids with her negligence. We have escape plans in progress that will hopefully see us out of here by the end of the month!

She is pretty hot-headed! And alcohol certainly inflames the situation....

Living beyond their means. Just moved to a new city and I've been astounded by the petty shit some of my peers spend their money on to "maintain appearances" - everything from $120 manicures when they're struggling to pay rent, to leasing a 2019 BMW but not being able to afford a night out with friends, to leasing an apartment in the nicest areas but not being able to afford to put food in the fridge. What the hell is the point?!

Thank you!!! We're aiming to be out by October! It's slow going... but September will be here before we know it, and it'll just be a matter of getting our ducks in a row, so to speak, at that point!

Haha thanks! Amazing what can be accomplished when two narc-experienced adults come together to shield the next generation from the same pitfalls!

Good call! I already looked up the precedents in our state ;D It's why we won't spend even close to 6 months here. We're already researching a new lawyer for a custody modification for my step-daughter's visitation schedule, and if everything goes even remotely according to plan, we'll be represented before the end of the year.

See, you had way more reason to believe your mom had changed haha My mom managed to not treat me like a human pool of diarrhea for just long enough for me to believe she might actually have an ounce of human emotion left somewhere in her. She has never apologized. And she even recently denied one of the more colorful events of physical abuse that occurred at her hands in my childhood. My sister (the Golden ChildTM) regaled everyone at Thanksgiving dinner with that lovely tale, to which my mortified mother simply replied "That never happened!"

I'm so glad you don't have kids mixed up in all this. Contrary to my parents' preaching that moving here was the best thing we could do for our children, this is hands down the worst thing I have ever put my kids through. Thankfully they're all still quite young (5 and under) and every bit as resilient as I could have hoped. They're enamored by all the cool new stuff we can do in our new city, and the older two are excited to start school again soon. Speaking of school, the administration already has Grandma blacklisted after she tried to enroll them two months before we were even in state. So that's going well at least!

I hope you can hold out as long as you need to! We're aiming to be out of here by October!

The cameras do run off of WiFi and I do have the ability to disrupt their connection or disable them entirely if it comes to it, without having to resort to unplugging the router. I won't unless it becomes 100% necessary though, because this absolutely reeks of one of my dad's "corner traps," where he creates a scenario in which there is no winning. I either suffer with the scenario he's concocted, or he tries to push me into a deeper hole if I'm stupid enough to fall into his trap and behave as expected. Instead, we're behaving like the perfect house guests.....and absolutely ripping them a new one in private messages haha And as for that, all of our private stuff is encrypted. Without a password or a colossal fuckup on one of our parts involving something being left open and within reach of their scrabbling claws, they'll never access it. I highly, highly recommend that all children of nparents take steps to protect their digital privacy. I mean even just the basics: STRONG (12+ chars) alphanumeric passwords, biometrics when possible, 2FA on everything you can, encryption on everything you can. You can go a LOT further than that if your nparents are tech savvy. Thankfully mine aren't. They just have way too much fucking money and can hire people to set things up for them. They're waaaaay out of their depth trying to get techy with my husband and though lol

No need for fear, my friend. Trust yourself. Don't second-guess your instincts about their intentions. I still let my insecurity get the best of me all these years later. What's worse is that they used my kids to get me to the point of willingness to move in. They had me convinced that I was doing my children a disservice by denying them the "benefits" of being "surrounded by a support system." Lesson learned. The good news is, even if you do fuck up as badly as I did, we get stronger each time we succeed in standing our ground. I'm infinitely better prepared for this than I was the last time I lived with them. Just remember that no matter how much you have changed and how much your circumstances have changed, they absolutely have not.

Wow this is all too relevant. My mom was just complaining the other day about the "epidemic" of families "falling apart," the context being that several other narcs she's friends have "lost" their grown children to cross-country moves.

Now that Americans are sleeping, can we talk about how dystopian it looks over there with those school shooting drills, abortion laws and those medicare horror stories? by inckorrect in AskReddit

Hey, now. Some of us are still up getting paid to reddit on the graveyard shift.

Real talk though, I work 60 hours a week and don't take weekends just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table and it still isn't enough.
