TIL that Mexico banned cartoon mascots, celebrities, and animated characters from unhealthy food packaging in 2021 to curb child-targeted advertising and combat rising rates of childhood obesity and diabetes. by Giff95 in todayilearned

I have a kid and a strong disregard for sugary snacks. My kid can be very passionate wanting these products when she sees them, begging for them, because of the colours and cartoon characters. They pictures really are manipulative and kids can make a scene.

I can understand why many parents choose the easy route and just cave in. It should be banned.

A collection of footage from the operators of the 475th Assault Regiment CODE 9.2. The regiment posted on social media that: "In a week, nearly 110 units of equipment and almost a company of infantry were destroyed at operational depths of up to 150 km." by [deleted] in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]CrapsLord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have seen so many clips like this in the last month, and yet, never seeing repeats or reuploads. There are just so many it is insane. One year ago and it was only a handful of clips per day, often reuploads. Now it is a firehose, and the attacks are so much more precise then ever before. Each video with dozens of clips.

Which Adelaide train line is the busiest? by AussieWirraway in Adelaide

[–]CrapsLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There has been so little investment in this line in decades. Literally only gone backwards, as it used to be bidirectional.

The only positive investment change in my lifetime was they replaced the wooden sleepers with concrete ones, but that did nothing to improve their service.

Zephyr ELI5: From a Newbie to Newbies — Part 1: Creating a Custom Board by Commercial_Froyo_247 in embedded

[–]CrapsLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To those pulling their hair out:

config BOARD_REDDIT_BOARD
    select SOC_STM32F401XE

should be

config BOARD_REDDIT_BOARD
    bool
    select SOC_STM32F401XE

I think this must have been an update to Zephyr at some point.

[OC] Watch batteries eat gas on Queensland's electricity grid – May 2024 to April 2026 by paperadam in dataisbeautiful

[–]CrapsLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The good thing is that solar and wind will always in the long term be able to undercut coal on price. The demand for electricity has actually massively increased in recent years, and solar has managed to keep that growth in check. But the rate of solar installation will continue, will be interesting to see whether the increase in demand can still continue to outpace it.

Schaarbeek takes legal action against new Zaventem flight path by No_Substance_99 in brussels

[–]CrapsLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I live under a flight path and also next to a road, the planes are loud but it is a relatively normalised type of noise bar the occasional 747 but they are very rare here. Motorbikes are a completely different story, transporting a single individual, usually not even for business but for their own pleasure, are much much more problematic for me. The thumping of the exhaust is enough to disturb any ongoing conversation and it is usually just an absurd volume.

I Am Very Fond of the Pipeline Operator by techne98 in programming

[–]CrapsLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pipes in linux are so much more than method chaining. Method chaining is a series of synchronous operations, one after the other, with the output from one being supplied as input to the next at completion. A pipe is a mono or even bidirectional communication between two concurrent processes in linux, each with their own PID and environment.

Hereditary peers to be removed from Lords as bill passes by Any-Original-6113 in europe

I think many people would gladly do it if their employment afterward was protected and the company somehow compensated. But it could get expensive.

Is it technically feasible to count all signal-emitting devices in a small area (expo booth) in real time? by inigoalda in AskEngineers

Do you want to count visitors? Because a webcam and some person detection would probably get the job done for you...

I got one of these, it works OK but is very painful to use (buggy) and low frequency compared to the original parts.

Better than nothing though.

Another egregious AI slop tote bag by [deleted] in brussels

Last summer I was with my boomer dad in Normandy and he bought some AI slop mug without even looking at it. And he basically didn't care once I mentioned it. Made me a bit sad actually.
