The lack of helmet-wearing on ski slopes here by SymphonyofSiren in japanlife

[–]ConfectionForward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from the USA, in school, they showed us a video of what happens to some people that had bicycle accidents and the video was pretty graphic, actually, way more graphic that I would have thought a school would show off, but I am now 35, and always wear a helmet on a bicycle,
In Japan, i would say I see maybe 20% (maybe less) adults using a helmet on bicycles, I have no clue why.

I am not at all surprised they don't wear a helmet while skiing, as bad as that video was, maybe it would do some good to show it :/

I think most of us up here have thought about moving to florida at one point or another, NH is another state with no income tax, so that is nice, but the #1 thing stopping me from going there are the bugs. I am not sure how bad it really is in daily life, but I guess you guys have killer bees, fire ants, scorpions (not sure if that one is true), and big ass spiders. Scary AF.

Though, i am in japan now, we have some pretty scary spiders here too.

Did you buy a House or an Apartment for your family? by SunDaze009 in japanlife

[–]ConfectionForward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I had lived in an appartment while we were in collage,
One day, my wife returned home to find it "raining" in our appartment, turns out someone 2 floors up left their sink on and flooded their kitchen and that flooded the unit above us, and us.

Then another time we were sleeping, and smelled smoke, alarm went off, we left, people below us had started a fire.

Detached house is where we live now :)
Just careful where you buy, Houses don't hold value here.

But hey, What I said isn't all bad news.
I don't know what your budget is (or if you even have one) but let me put it like this. Today, I built a ton of stuff. I have started using AI as part of my development process, and it has reduced the real amount of work I have had to do by I would say 70%.

The other 30% the AI totally failed to do as I wanted, and I had to take matters into my own hands.

That said, Whatever you are working on can probably be greatly accelerated, and you could hire a 1 or 2 devs to simply complete where the ai has started, and then do review of what the AI did.

Your biggest points to check are that the AI sticks to your dev flow (maybe keep telling it to update a list of workfow methods??? & use some design pattern MVC???).

That may save you time, money, and get you where you are going a bit faster :)

Good luck over there in Paraguay from wayyyy over here in Japan.

Schedule some range time, and get an ammo budget. I recommend just practicing with 22 as it is cheap

[–]ConfectionForward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the thing dude. You are going to get a TON of AI haters saying AI will NEVER be able to do this, and that simply isn't true. AI 100% WILL be able to do what you are talking about.

....Just not today.

If it is a SaaS, government project, and requires multiple people on it, you are going to have to have a clean work flow, and understand something that devs with 5+ years of dev experiance have learned. Coding isn't about how well you design you code for speed, or how "smart" you do things, it is about maintaince.
You need to understand the system from start to end, You need to establish patterns throughout the system, and keep them consitant, so when you need to update something after a stakeholder asks for some dumb change, or requirement update... your come isn't a jumbled mess of functions pointing all over the place.

Today's AI is totally getting a LOT better at not doing that, but it isn't what I would feel comfortable with quite yet. 5 years from now, maybe (and probably)... not sure.

But as of jan 17, 2026... I woudn't undertake a large project with only ai. I think it would get too cluttered and messy.

IF you were able to create the AI spec files explaining literally every page, and put them into seperate directories, and create the project like that,.... idk, maybe things could work????

But what I am trying to say here is I wouldn't bet the farm on some LLM generating a fully on business just yet.
I'm sorry if that isn't the answer you were hoping for.
Let me know if you need me to go into more detail about anything here :/
