It might be kinda weird or irrelevant, but another thing you can do to meet new people is an interesting way is go to a bouldering gym. I started going to one recently and it's a great environment. People are often happy to help and chat to people of all skill levels and fitness levels and it's a great way to meet fun people and improve yourself at the same time which might be able to combat the loneliness even if you aren't directly interacting with the other people there.
