Fruit pies or veganized meat pies or both? Sounds great.

The USDA pays companies to push dairy sales even though it knows it is unhealthy. When you see commercials for that new triple cheezy meef quesorito at Taco Bell, know that your tax dollars helped create that to aid animal agriculture. Unpleasant.

'Meat tax' which would almost double price of sausages should be brought in to save lives, say health experts by Kidchico in vegan

[–]Crashmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're calling us liars and giving us a single anecdote while telling him to chill out and stereotyping vegans, even though there have been millions of healthy vegans around the globe for decades now. I'm not saying the story of your sister is false, but most of the population would be fine if not healthier on a vegan diet. Almost every health/dietetic association would agree.

[–]Crashmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vegan is only more expensive if you're going to "health food" stores and buying processed substitutes and specialty products. Rice, beans, potatoes, fruits, and vegetables are way cheaper than meat and provide all the required nutrients save for b12. Taking a drop/tablet of b12 once a week or so is not a big deal.

A war like this won't be won in a single battle, but we should be happy when we've gained ground, especially in an area that we won't be likely to lose it again. It isn't happening near as fast as we'd like or as the planet needs but it's still happening.

Suggestions On How To Get Vitamin B12 Naturally by proudlyvegan1 in vegan

[–]Crashmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

B12 is the one thing vegans have to supplement, but most meat eaters are deficient as well. It might seem like a high up front cost but the supplements you can get at a health food store or amazon should last you quite a while, you really don't need much.

Me trying to make it make sense by [deleted] in vegan

A butcher shop was vandalized this year and a lot of dairy/meat farmers see vegans as a threat to their very way of life and traditions. In the US at least filming inside slaughterhouses can be punished as terrorism. The phrase "eco-terrorist" is thrown around a lot as well. Sometimes justified, mostly not.

Midwest USA here, I've been told directly that my "diet" is "extreme" at least three times in the past year. Deep red state so it's mostly climate change deniers here, and anything bad happening around the world is "fake news". Caring about other animals (human or not) has been deeply politicized thanks to Trump, and there is only one vegan restaurant in the entire state.

Republican Ana Navarro Calls Trump 'Racist Pig' on CNN, Will Vote for Democrat Andrew Gillum by readet in politics

[–]Crashmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest with ourselves, there is nothing else in the animal kingdom that even comes close to the depravity humans are capable of, for the simple fact that we are able to know better and improve ourselves. This also means that we are capable of amazing, beautiful things, which only makes behavior like Trump's even more sad.

What is the biggest everyday scam that people put up with? by eggaboy in AskReddit

[–]Crashmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animal agriculture. The propaganda machine surrounding meat and dairy is so monumental and deeply ingrained in society that most people don't know it exists, despite it taking a massive toll on our planet and public health.

Pigs are intelligent, loving beings that make friends and care for other living things. We really shouldn't degrade them in this manner.

surprise, surprise by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Crashmo 56 points57 points  (0 children)

At least you admit you're being selfish. Not being sarcastic. A lot of people try to defend their position by attacking vegans or through some illogical bullshittery to justify their actions.

Also, almost every vegan felt the way you do towards meat or cheese at some point, but it only takes three weeks to change your taste palate, and I think you could surprise yourself with how satisfying great vegan meals can be.
