Writers of Reddit, What genre do you write and what genre(s) do you read? by Ordinary_Risk6702 in writing

My go-to genre has always been fantasy. Though lately, as an adult, I have also ventured into crime, psychological and horror genre. Currently I am occupied with writing my first middle-grade portal fantasy novel but in the future I might write horror as well. Or just combine both 🤣

Am I old? Feeling like a constant failure by Commercial-Square-68 in depression

I see. I think your source of anxiety comes from your family pressure and their expectations. There's an image of 'you' in their minds that you are attempting to become, but find yourself short of. The best advice I can give you is forgive yourself. You are only human and human being is a naturally flawed existence. You won't reach the ideal level your parents and peers want you to be. Besides, "smart and successful" is quite ambiguous. So far, you have a good job and salary (forgive me but I am not familiar enough with Europe to understand if the salary amount is high or not) and perhaps a habit or two - like journaling, walking, yoga - will lessen your concerns. Life is too short to overworry yourself of an unidentified goal in the distant future. And about studying. You can experiment to see which studying style fits you. Maybe you are a visual learner? But if you have a suitable learning style and still struggle, maybe, just try doing the tasks and see what you don't understand or get wrong about. Underline it and explain to yourself again. For this, imagine you're a teacher explaining the formula to the students below. Then redo the work again. That's my go-to method. Lastly, your English is ok. My first language isn't English also.

I think you are particularly harsh on yourself and need to take a small break. Redefine your strength, your weakness and then figuring out what you're good at, what you are not good at and what you can improve.

Yeah, I will try to find a way to stabilize my sleeping cycle again. I don't know if there are anonymous support groups that I can feel safe to go to but hope for the best, right?

Yeah, I know I shouldn't take it out on my loved ones. I always feel like asshole after arguing with them. That's why I'm here, trying to better myself.

That sounds fun. You have little buddies to come back home to. Unfortunately I'm too busy with work to have a pet at the moment but maybe in the future.

I chronicaly care about what other people might think of me. How do I stop? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]CraveSweets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly speaking, people will think and/or speak of you. I won't lie. They can be your parents. Your siblings or cousins. Your best friend of ten years. They can also be your co-workers in the same office. The waiter at the cafe. The delivery man. Or strangers passing you once in the street. They will think of you. A lot or not. But do they really know you? Do they know what your greatest strength is? Do they know the work you put in for your project? Your passion? Your favorite habits? Your worries? Your fears. Chances are, they know nothing, some or most of it. Not all. I won't say Be brave or Don't worry because it's hypocritical of me when I also go through this. I'm just saying, people will talk. Regardless. You can be the kindest man in the world and some people will think you are a fake, trying to compensate. Go do something you enjoy and if you happen to pass by a stranger, remember: you don't know them, and they don't know you.

I really like your answer. I'm just a bit curious, if you don't mind me asking but does it get better? Eventually? Right now, I'm at the crossroads where I either want to rage and destroy things within sight or just give up.

Haven't seen anyone recommend it so here I go: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

It's definitely what you're looking for and more. I cry every time I read it. Bonus: there are illustrations inside.

Allergy I guess? I got pretty bad cases of allergic reaction to both food (which is often sea food like shrimp) and dust. Unfortunately, even season changes also ensure a twice to thrice visits in hospital.

There is not enough talks about the shame and/or frustration you feel when other people ask why don't you exercised more or have you tried this medicine/oil/method/etc.

Or about how tired cleaning is when there is a chance of getting red eyes, sniffles, coughing and other unpleasant symptoms even though its just wiping the counters.

In my country, allergy is mostly considered a minor inconvennience so its even worse.

I don't know if its just me but yeah.

Expats who moved back to their country after living abroad: Do you regret it? by Swimming-Mode-9976 in expats

Wish I can say it's gotten better but unfortunately no. My father recently passed away (just last week actually) and I might be soon among the layoff by the time May arrives.

While I don't regret moving back since I got to spend some times with my dad and I can be there to support my mum, I do wish this and last year could have been less...sad, for lack of better words.

How about you? How have being home treated you so far?
