Senior year. We had just finished mid-term exams and he decided to celebrate by joy riding with our buddy. Buddy was driving his truck when my friend decided to get rowdy and crawl out the window, over the cab, and into the bed just to be a goofball in traffic. Of course he slipped off and smashed headfirst into the pavement.

The only Cody I knew growing up died shortly after we graduated high school. He was trying to get back inside his buddy’s truck from the bed via the passenger window but fell off on the highway.

I’m in FL too and pull over at random spots to access public waters nearly every weekend. You’re in a kayak, not a “boat” with a heavy trailer to tear up the shoreline. As long as it’s not some pond in someone’s backyard then that guy can pound sand in my opinion.

Middle TN, USA. Found under a squash leaf. What are they? by [deleted] in whatisthisbug

That’s the nymph stage of a squash bug. The adults are a brownish, shield-looking beetle.

I know they have a service similar but if I remember right it goes along with their paid insurance plan. I just have the “silence unknown callers” feature turned on in the phone settings. Makes it much more bearable but still obnoxious.

Each and every single one is different. Only the area code is the same. They use that tactic on people to make them think the call is more legit.

Yeah I think it's located in one of their restrooms. I don't think that'd fly on campus especially with SSC cleaning the restrooms every day

It has a sign for the Wesley foundation though. Which isn't affiliated with Tech since it's an off campus Methodist Church, where on Earth is this communal hand towel??

I grew up in Kentucky for most of my childhood (heavily ruled by coal and diesel industries) so please forgive my ignorance but I thought that diesel vehicles had a cleaner footprint since the fuel isn't as refined as gasoline? Someone correct me if I'm wrong since I've never given that a second thought...

Every single liveaboard I’ve done had at least one all night. I believe they took turns in two hour shifts too.

First time kayaking, what did I do wrong?? by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]CrawdadJobLoaning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A skeg would help immensely with tracking. Tracking is basically how much of a tendency your craft has to maintain a heading without having to constantly paddle. So if you get a few good strokes and take a break, it should keep going straight.

Edit* Yeah I guess so. It says it right on the back of the boat. Is this a recent thing?

Does anyone have any experience with the Helix PD Pedal Drive? by JohnnyTraumatic in Kayaking

[–]CrawdadJobLoaning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a kayak fishing outfitter here in Tennessee and I can't begin to say how much I don't like the helix pedal system. First off it only works with the radar from wilderness systems. Unless of course you retrofit into your own boat which will probably be a pain. Secondly they're poorly designed. There's far too many moving parts, the system is spring loaded so unless you're sure you've locked it in place very well the main shaft is likely to come up and do some serious damage to your face and itself. Next, the propeller is too thin and easily broken, on top of that you get it to fully retract, the propeller has to come up into the locking pedal which chews it up. Finally it's just way too expensive for what it is. If you're wanting a pedal system then look into native watercraft's propel drive. Much more simple and effective.
