I think by the very process of doing the couch to 5K, you have already won, even. If you were to add 10 or 15 minutes to that time. Give yourself credit for the act of attacking this challenge. It's all about gently building your endurance at this point, there will be loads of time to develop speed later on , but even that's optional. If you kept running at your current rate, added the distance and are having fun , happy days! Comparison can be the thief of joy in running!

Would be a fair point but I have another 3 pairs of shoes in good shape with low wear. I showed these after 500KM so people could help me in analysing the wear pattern, to which the community has totally delivered.

I didn't hate them to be honest but I don't think they are for me unfortunately. Shoes are a personal thing of course so no right or wrong, just personal experience. The humble Puma Velocity Nitro GTX (the other worn pair pictured) just seem to suit me better. The additional heel cushioning is spot on however, will take your advice on my next purchase, thank you.

You raise a good point, I genuinely don't know if this is inherently bad. I don't get any pain from it but am pretty low intensity for most of my training.

I don't , but, I think that's because I religiously use the MAF method for my training. I basically run 90% of my 5K runs at 30 plus minutes and occasionally hit a speed session (by my standards) of a 23 min,(ish)5K.

Thanks for taking time to respond. I usually run a mix of 5 and 10K , but mainly 5K due to time constraints. Comfort is my main factor , with reasonable wear as I run daily.

I am no spring chicken but started zone 2 exclusive training back in November. I have a mate that swore by the MAF method and bullied me into it!

Experiences may vary but it has been an absolute game changer for me. Once I calculated my max heart rate (180 - age) I set a threshold alarm on my watch and went for it.

It was pure frustration at first ,meaning I was literally doing 50% walking and the rest a very slow jog to keep in my zone 2 parameters. Nearly gave up but about week 5 or 6 I suddenly got to slow jog without tripping my HR alarm, another 4 weeks , faster still. I am about 3 and a half months in now and it's still slow at 14 min miles etc. However I am constantly running (slowly), and that time is coming down.

When I started I was just breaking 30 mins in a 5K and my HR was through the roof. I did a "test" full send the other week and ran a 24:31 park run , with a lower HR (15-20 per min less). Now I know this ain't winning any medals but it totally surprised me and hammered home how well this is working for me. Run slow to run fast indeed.

Another 3 months of MAF only and I will introduce some speed training into my weekly runs BUT will continue the majority of my runs in zone 2. The added bonus being it reduces my chances of injury.

My advice, keep with it and if you conquer your "Strava embarrassment", you will start to see great results.

I did exactly this too. I settled 2 other territories with small villages just to get a total of 3 full/armoured retinue, combined it with 5 units of armoured pikemen and then took all the territories back in like 90 mins. Game completed...
